This OpportunityWSP is currently initiating a search for an experienced Environmental Permitting Specialist. We are looking for someone with proven experience in preparing and securing state and federal permits as well as performing natural resource assessments. This position will primarily support our renewable energy generation, onshore and offshore transmission, and environmental remediation work across the northeast. Be involved in projects with our team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our clients' objectives and solves their challenges.
Our successful candidate will have experience preparing state and Federal environmental permit applications, interacting with regulatory agency representatives, conducting natural resource assessments, performing waters/wetland delineations in New England, familiarity with the 1987 USACE Wetland Delineation Manual and Northcentral and Northeast Regional Supplements
Your Impact
  • Preparation of state and Federal environmental permit applications.
  • Waters/Wetland delineations and Waters of the U.S. jurisdictional determinations
  • Wetland and Stream Functional Assessments
  • Plant and habitat surveys
  • Rare, threatened, and endangered species surveys
  • Special status species surveys
  • Invasive Species Surveys and Mapping
  • Data processing and workflows, QA/QC, and summary report writing
  • Interaction with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients, in a confident and professional manner
  • Work with cross-functional teams in executing project work.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You AreRequired Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, Wildlife, or a related life sciences field.
  • 3-5 years of experience leading permitting efforts and performing natural resource assessments.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the USACE Wetland Delineation Manual and Regional Supplements
  • Experience with plant and habitat surveys and/or vegetation characterizations; strong botanical skills preferred
  • Experience with tablet-based field data collection (i.e., ArcGIS Field Maps)
  • Ability to travel to project site(s), work in extreme terrain and temperatures, and work independently
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel; ArcGIS proficiency preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills required
  • Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening.
  • Familiarity with local, state, and federal permitting agencies.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a scientific and non-scientific audience.
  • Highly capable self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to work independently and provide guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
  • Proficiency with business writing, office automation and communication software, technology, and tools.
  • Developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, and identify the most effective solutions to accomplish objectives of assigned projects.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Routine travel will be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s Degree is preferred.
  • 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120) preferred.
  • Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.
  • PWS Certification
  • State of New Hampshire Wetland Scientist Certification
