Foothills Child Advocacy Center is Hiring a Child Advocate Near Charlottesville, VA

About us

At Foothills Child Advocacy Center, children come first. We provide an opportunity for them to tell their story in a child friendly space, to receive medical exams, and to be connected to community services. Our doors are open and accessible to all.

THE POSITION

The Child Advocate provides trauma informed advocacy and support services to children and their families who have experienced abuse or neglect or have witnessed violence. This includes making referrals to community resources, coordinating services, providing parent education, and working with the non-offending caregiver to ensure the child's needs are met through the investigative, prosecution and treatment process.

Duties include: 1) scheduling Forensic Interviews; 2) working 1:1 with children and their non-offending caregiver; 3) serving as an active, contributing member of MDTs (Multi-Disciplinary Team) in Albemarle, Charlottesville, Buckingham, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, Madison, Nelson, Orange, and other counties as needed; 4) entering data into NCATrak; 5) providing training to community organizations on mandated reporting, trauma-informed care, and other topics approved by the Program Director.

Travel within our service area is required. A company vehicle may be available.

This full-time position reports to the Program Director.

REQUIREMENTS

· At least three years of experience working in the field of child protection, mental health, sexual assault, or with children and families who have experienced trauma.

· Previous experience in a children’s advocacy center or working with an MDT preferred.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

· Highly sensitive to the needs and welfare of children and caretakers who have experienced physical and/or sexual abuse.

· Knowledge of child development, family violence, substance abuse, and the dynamics of child sexual abuse.

· Highly self-motivated and able to work independently.

· Ability to work collaboratively with other professionals.

· Ability to work in a stressful job environment with difficult subject matter.

· Ability to be flexible and adjust to a quickly changing schedule and handle distractions and interruptions.

· Fluent in Microsoft Office 365.

· Ability to operate recording equipment (training provided).

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of the job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close and distance vision.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Evening and weekend hours as required. Must be willing to work flexible hours. Must have access to a vehicle; possess a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance; submit to a pre-employment thorough criminal and child abuse background check and thereafter every three years, demonstrate proof of legal ability to work in the United States, and, if applicable, demonstrate registration with the Selective Service. Occasional in-state and out-of-state travel is required. To be eligible to drive the Foothills vehicle, must be accepted as a qualified driver by Foothills’ insurance carrier.
