About the role

The Senior Back End Software Developer is responsible for implementing the company’s vision for an SREC aggregation platform. Candidates should expect to spend approximately 75% of their time designing, writing, and testing Clojure code.

The Senior Back End Software Developer position reports directly to the Director of Software Engineering and works closely with other key staff, including the VP of Aggregation.

Principal Responsibilities

• Conceives, develops, and implements new backend capabilities and services.
• Maintains and improves existing Clojure software.
• Clearly communicates with management and colleagues on a regular basis.
• Tests and maintains software products to ensure strong functionality and optimization.
• Surfaces and manages technical debt.
• Collaborates with external teams as needed for technical implementations.
• Leads and mentors’ junior software developers.

Desired Skills and Qualifications

• Degree required: Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field is preferred.
• A minimum of five years’ experience in web software development.
• Strong knowledge of Clojure as a platform for web servers.
• Excellent coding skills and appreciation for functional patterns, state management and GraphQL APIs.
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
• Ability to navigate changing priorities.
• Attention to detail.
• Able to work autonomously while striving for transparency.

Location and Hybrid Work

Sun Tribe’s HQ is in Charlottesville, VA on the historic downtown mall. Our team is based both in Charlottesville and Richmond and prefer candidates to be within two hours of Charlottesville.

Ideally, you are local or willing to relocate to Charlottesville. Otherwise, you’d be expected to be in the office 2-3 days per week during the first 4-6 months for onboarding and at least weekly thereafter.

Salary & Benefits

Expected salary range: $165,000-185,000, commensurate with experience.
