Overview: In line with our dedication to robust financial governance, we are actively seeking an accomplished professional to join our team as a Manager of Internal Controls. This role presents a unique opportunity to help build the SOX function within our Finance organization. Reporting to the Director of Internal Controls, this individual will assist in design and implementation of the internal controls framework. Following the design and implementation of the program, this individual will support the maintenance of the organization’s SOX compliance effort. Talcott has offices in New York, Connecticut and Bermuda. The role will may sit in any of these offices with occasional travel between locations. Our preferred candidate may reside in our future location of: Charlotte, North Carolina. Primary Responsibilities: Framework Development: Support the development and establishment of an internal controls framework, including documentation standards, tailored to the organization's structure and regulatory requirements.Implementation: Assist in the implementation of control environment initiatives, ensuring alignment with industry best practices and regulatory standards.Risk Assessment: Conduct risk assessments to identify key controls, evaluate control design effectiveness, and assess the overall control environment.Remediation Planning and Monitoring: Work closely with process owners to develop and implement effective remediation plans for identified control deficiencies, monitor progress to completion as well as validate implementation achieves control objectives. Process Optimization: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize business processes, actively seeking standardization and automation opportunities and integrating effective internal controls seamlessly into operations.Stakeholder Collaboration: Collaborate with internal stakeholders promoting a risk-aware culture and liaise with external auditors and senior management to communicate the status of SOX compliance efforts and any control deficiencies.New Business: Proactively identify and communicate risks in relation to proposed and new business activities. Support assessment of new transactions and the controls required to support them. Qualifications: Education: Bachelor's or Graduate degree in Accounting, Actuarial Science or Finance Advanced Degree, CPA preferred.Experience: 8 years of progressive experience including, at a minimum, 4 years of internal audit or SOX compliance experience (public account experience preferred)Experience within the life and annuity and reinsurance industries.Project management experienceKnowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of US GAAP, STAT, SEC Reporting, Sarbanes-OxleyStrong understanding of internal controls, risk management, and financial reporting.Strategic thinker with excellent project management, problem resolution and organizational skills.Supportive business partner with the ability to influence without authority.Perceptive, analytical and self-starting individual with a process excellence mindset and adaptable to change.Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels.
