Job Location: Leonhard Recreation Center - Champaign, IL
Position Type: Part Time 2
Salary Range: $15.00 Hourly

Description

Summary

The Youth Sport Clinic Instructor is responsible for the instruction of Champaign Park District instructional Youth Sport Clinics for children ages 3-13. Sports include t-ball, softball, basketball, football, and soccer


Qualifications

  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • A sincere interest and enthusiasm for sports and developing these skills in children
  • Knowledge of at least one sport and the rules
  • Ability to maintain working relationship with staff and public
  • Experience working with children 3 14 years old preferred, but not required
  • POSITIVE CAN DO TEAM ATTITUDE

Supervision

The Youth Sport Clinic Instructor reports directly to the Sports Coordinator.


Training Can obtained through Champaign Park District

  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certification through American Heart Association or accredited agency
  • Blood borne pathogen training
  • Facility training
  • Concussion training through Center for Disease Control

Classification

  • Non-exempt, hourly
  • Part-time

Essential Functions

  • Follow all Champaign Park District safety policies and perform all work in a manner that ensures the safety of the public, fellow employees, and themselves
  • Follow prepared lesson plans
  • Instruct participants in fundamentals of designated sport
  • Assist with creating lesson plans with Youth Sports Coordinator
  • Take attendance every session
  • Maintain a safe recreational environment
  • Thoroughly complete accident, incident, and other reports as necessary and turn in the same day
  • Check all equipment and supplies and report necessary repairs to supervisor
  • Ensure care and return of all Champaign Park District equipment
  • Must be easily identified as a Champaign Park District staff member by wearing a staff shirt or jacket during working hours
  • Relay comments from participants and spectators to supervisor
  • Other duties as assigned

Marginal Functions

  • Attend all required meetings

Psychological Considerations

  • Respond to problem situations in a mature manner and within the policies and procedures of the Park District
  • Adjust teaching to meet needs of individual children

Physiological Considerations

  • Lift and carry supplies up to 20 pounds
  • Running, stretching, jumping and other team sports-related movements required
  • Must be able to be physically active to administer CPR and First Aid as necessary

Environmental Considerations

  • May be exposed to all weather conditions especially extreme heat and sun

Cognitive Considerations

  • Must be able to work well with people, resolve problems fairly and with judgment in keeping with the mission of the district
  • Should exercise creativity and resourcefulness in developing and implementing projects
  • Must be able to respond quickly and accurately in emergency situations
  • Must understand oral and written communication
  • Should be safety conscious at all times
