Job Summary

Responsible for providing leadership, support, and training to employees and supervising care in the areas of Med/Surg/Peds and CCU.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Complies with established nursing standards and demonstrates a comprehensive scope of skills and knowledge in the management of patient care.
  • Organizes and oversees the work of clinical, nursing, and administrative support staff.
  • Serves as a resource to staff, interpreting philosophy, goals, standards, policies and procedures in accordance with Hospital Mission & Values.
  • Develop and implement education programs for nurses based on identified needs and best practices.
  • Conduct training sessions and workshops to enhance nursing knowledge and skills.
  • Collaborate with nursing staff to assess learning needs and develop individualized education plans.
  • Provide ongoing support and guidance to nurses in their professional development.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of educational programs through assessments and feedback.
  • Stay up to date with current trends and advancements in nursing practice and education.
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement orientation for new hires, assisting with the orientation process. Will provide ongoing support and guidance to nurses in their professional development after orientation.
  • Serves as a resource person and/or preceptor for other staff.
  • Facilitates skill training and competency assessment based on identified needs.
  • Maintains department policies, personnel and procedures that comply with local, state and other standards.
  • Assists in establishing new programs, policies and operating procedures, and the refinement of existing programs and policies.
  • Supervises and performs competency evaluations for staff. Assists the director in completing staff performance reviews.
  • Provides direct patient care when needed.
  • Collaborates with others as needed to promote continuous improvement of patient directed services.
  • Publishes a monthly schedule of nursing assignments.
  • Assists Director as needed in providing staff meetings and in-services.
  • Assists with maintaining an inventory of supplies.
  • Practices and behaves in a professional, safe and ethical manner at all times.
  • Serves as a patient advocate.
  • Maintains friendly and courteous interpersonal communication skills and a positive service attitude.
  • Participates in performance improvement and educational activities. Completes all CEU’s as required by respective licensure. If licensed, maintains an active and current license.
  • Works willingly and accepts assignments as given.
  • Attends all mandatory meetings and programs.
  • Participates in opportunities that enhance personal and professional growth.
  • Performs other duties as necessary or assigned.
  • Complies with the Corporate Compliance Policy and all laws, regulations, and Standards of Conduct relating to the position and agrees to report any suspected violations of law or Standards of Conduct.
  • Complies with all applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Maintains a safe work environment using safe work practices, utilizing standard precautions and complying with hazardous waste procedures at all times as described in St. Anthony's Safety Manual.
  • Maintains the confidentiality of patient, resident, employee and organizational information.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Carries out supervisory responsibilities under the department Director’s guidance in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

  • Associate Degree in Nursing (Bachelors of Science in Nursing, BSN preferred) Current license to practice nursing in the state.
  • Two years of experience in a related setting.
  • Previous leadership experience preferred.

Position Requirements, Licenses, Certifications, Registrations

  • Basic Life Support certification.
  • ACLS certification within 3 months of employment.
  • PALS certification within 6 year of employment.
  • TNCC within 6 months of employment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional customer service skills with the ability to work effectively and positively with a variety of patients, employees, departments, and the public.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Must possess effective time management skills.

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical journals, financial reports and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, patients, families, regulatory agencies, or members of the community. Ability to effectively present information to management, the public and/or board of directors.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. May be exposed to infectious diseases and occupational dangers like accidental needle pricks. Must be able to withstand physical and emotional stress.
