The Macosko Lab at the Broad Institute of MIT & Harvard is seeking an organized, self-motivated individual to manage the operations of our experimental lab. Our group develops genomics technologies and applies them to study the function of the brain and uncover mechanisms of dysfunction in neurological and psychiatric diseases.
The primary responsibilities of this position include:
Operate as a lead on operations and administrative activities.
Serve as point of contact for vendors.
Leading efforts to catalog and organize biological specimens that arrive from different brain bank repositories.
Maintaining computerized databases of and tracking orders for key reagents in the lab.
Routinely maintaining the laboratory space, supplies, and overall organization.
Surveillance of safety-related parameters in the laboratory.
Generating and presenting a weekly report of the above activities.
In addition, the ideal candidate will be willing to assist with experimental workflows including the performance of molecular biology protocols at the bench. Because our lab is very technology-focused, the candidate will have rich opportunities to learn new methodologies and expand their technical skill set through interaction with others in our group.
Characteristic Duties:
Perform physical lab organizational efforts and take responsibility for equipment and reagent inventories.
Maintain electronic brain tissue inventories in the lab.
Digitally organize and maintain key laboratory reagent and equipment modules.
Perform bread-and-butter molecular assays like single-cell data generation.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline.
2 - 5 years of practical experience in research laboratory management is required.
Practical experience with functional organization within a group of 20-30 individuals.
Hands-on experience using computerized systems and software.
On-site presence (non-hybrid) during the week and the ability to respond to rare emergency situations.
Willingness to work with live and deceased laboratory animals and manage their housing is required.
