Job OverviewThe Molding Engineer is a "hands-on" position that plans, directs, and coordinates manufacturing equipment and processes to produce high quality injection molded product. The Molding Engineer is responsible for coordinating the molding efforts on new program launches, setting up and/or revising manufacturing processes and assisting the manufacturing operations in problem solving and continuous process improvements. While monitoring the effectiveness of processes this individual quantifies results, documents and presents findings to management and prepares reports. This position also mentors and provides training to other injection molding personnel as needed. Key ResponsibilitiesOversees designs, develops, and implements tooling and processing requirements to support new products, existing production, and other business requirements in the molding areaDevelops, implements, and maintains tooling standards, in-house and at suppliers to meet business objectivesDevelops, implements, and maintains production tooling PM system within CMMSWorks with planners and mold technicians to coordinate repairs and PM of tooling to ensure minimal production interruptionsSelects and develops existing or new tool suppliers to meet business objectivesManages sourcing, design and construction of tooling to ensure product integrity and manufacturabilityActs as lead contact for all RFQ functions with injection molding tool suppliersParticipates in design for Molding/Manufacturing (DFM) activitiesOversee the designs, development, builds, and samples Prototype tooling, in-house and/or at supplierGains consensus with technical staff to develop appropriate work instructions to meet regulatory and business needsSupports technical staff for issues they are unable to resolve in the Molding DepartmentSupports implementation of Lean Manufacturing practicesAssists Operations team in any strategic initiative to help with compliance standard, implementing new systems, and designing creative solutions to continuously improve the plantCreates a pro-active culture of change by promoting, teaching, and listening to improvement needed by engaging all levels of employees in the businessUses data to prepare detailed plans, drive project performance, and assure timely completion and improvement projects and savings goals Qualifications and RequirementsBachelor of Science Degree in Plastics, Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering or closely related 4 year Technical degree is required with 3-5 years of practical work experience in an injection molding operationMinimum 2 years of experience with advanced problem solving and change management methodologies preferredHas lead a number of VIP projects that were delivered on time and overall considered successful preferredRegulated industry experience that includes FDA and ISO requirements preferredAble to develop technical solutions to complex technical problems where analysis of situations or data require an in-depth evaluation of variable factorsAble to apply ingenuity and creativity regularly in order to develop the proper solutionAware of cultural difference that may exists in business and technical practices and applies them effectively in global interactions and projectsSuccessfully network with key contacts outside own area of expertise.Ability to lead projects within a multi-functional team with proven verbal and written communication skills Familiarity with the methods of Risk Management and FMEA’sTeamwork, communication, positive attitude required to support the manufacturing environmentProblem Solving – able to perform root cause analysis and implement effective corrective actions Project Management – able to effectively manage and complete multiple projects simultaneouslyExperience in 3D modeling, “Solidworks” preferred Mathematical Skills – able to work with concepts such as probability, statistical inference, geometry and trigonometry. Able to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations and document such data within report formats.Computer Skills – Excellent computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite, MiniTab, IFS, Ability to read and analyze Electrical, Mechanical and Plumbing blue printsExperience with the construction of durable, high cavitation tooling including hot runners and gate valves Physical RequirementsPlease refer to Key Responsibilities.
