City of Calabasas is Hiring a Recreation Attendant Near Calabasas, CA

Under the direction of the Community Services Department staff as assigned. Oversees and provides support services for recreation programs, rentals, various special events and activities, and performs light maintenance and janitorial services at the Senior Center, Civic Center, Calabasas Community Center, De Anza Park, City parks, grounds, restrooms and other City recreational facilities and buildings. Performs related duties as assigned.
 The following tasks are essential for this position. Incumbents in this classification may not perform all of these tasks or may perform similar related tasks not listed here.
  •  Sets up tables, chairs, and other equipment for the production of special events including performing arts presentations, receptions, seminars, recreation programs, meetings, banquets and related activities.
  • Loads and unloads supplies, materials and equipment, and empties waste receptacles. 
  • Sets up the appropriate equipment, furniture, and catering services to be used in events and meetings.
  • Prepares athletic and recreational facilities; and performs general janitorial work at all facilities, including, but not limited to: cleaning restroom fixtures, walls, and floors. Restocking restroom paper supplies; emptying all waste receptacles in restroom and grounds areas; picking up all litter and waste in parks grounds areas 
  • Resolves customer questions and complaints, requiring clear oral communication and hearing ability acute enough to understand dialogue and instructions.
  • Ability to drive to work sites, requiring driving capabilities including vision, arm, shoulder and leg movement, and full neck movement.
  • Coordinates, prepares set-ups, oversees, and directs the proper and safe use of City facilities, buildings, parks, grounds, parking lots, and recreational facilities. 
  • Ensures City buildings and facilities are locked/unlocked as appropriate.
  • Operates audio, visual and lighting equipment, as well as other related equipment.
  • Assist with administrative tasks including processing program registrations and facility reservations; maintain attendance and registration records; create and maintain program files.
  • Assist department staff with the execution of recreation programs, including sports, games, excursions, arts and crafts, camps, classes, and special events.
  • Monitor activity of participants in recreation programs and activities; enforce rules and regulations of recreational programs to maintain discipline and ensure safety.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Knowledge, Skill and Ability:
Knowledge of:
 
  • Knowledge of the practices, methods, and procedures used in the operation of public assembly facilities and similar centers.
  • Knowledge of security methods, for public assembly facilities and similar centers.
  • Knowledge of proper methods for preparation of athletic fields, including dragging, chalking, and watering for league play. 
  • Knowledge of equipment, tools and materials used to perform maintenance work.
  • Knowledge of the janitorial and light maintenance practices, methods, and procedures 
  • Knowledge of safety practices and procedures used in janitorial and light maintenance work.
  • Knowledge of appropriate safety precautions and procedures.
  • Knowledge of basic maintenance trades.
  • Knowledge of recreation programs and services.
 
Skill and Ability to:
  • Use and operate various tools, and equipment.
  • Adequate skill in operation of motor vehicles 
  • Ability to establish and maintain courteous, effective public relations and to work harmoniously and effectively alone or with others.
  • Ability to understand oral and written instructions or direction and to maintain routine logs, timecards, and forms.
  • Ability to coordinate and direct the activities and events held at City facilities; identify problems in event or facility planning and recommend solutions. 
  • Operate a variety of sound, lighting and electronic equipment, including alarm systems and field light timers. 
  • provide information to the general public, special event promoters and producers, and service personnel. 
  • Work independently, without direct supervision. 
  • Provide general direction regarding operation of all City facilities, buildings, parks and grounds.
  • Facilitate recreation programs and services.
 
Training and Experience:
Any combination equivalent to training and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills and abilities would be graduation from high school and have prior work experience and have possession of a current Class C California driver’s License. Must be available to work nights/weekends/holidays as needed.
 
CPR/First Aid within 6 months, City will provide a class.
 
Licenses and Certificates:
Possession of a valid California driver's license.
 
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • Requires vision (which may be corrected) to read small print.
  • Requires the mobility to stand, stoop, reach and bend.
  • Requires mobility of arms to reach and dexterity of hands to grasp and manipulate small objects.
  • Requires the ability to stand for long periods.
  • Requires the ability to walk long distances.
  • Performs work which involves the frequent lifting, pushing and/or pulling of objects which may weigh up to 75 pounds and may occasionally weigh up to 100 pounds.
  • Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.
  • May be required to traverse hilly and rocky terrain.
  • May be required to use personal vehicle in the course of employment.
  • May be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • May be required to work a varied schedule as needed.
