Boston Lab Services is Hiring a Lab Specialist Near Burlington, MA

LAB SPECIALIST

Role:

A laboratory specialist is responsible for supporting scientists and management in the maintenance of the lab while ensuring that safety guidelines and regulations are adhered to at all times. You will represent Boston Lab Services at the client site. Part of your responsibility includes developing a professional relationship with the client and employees, as well as vendors that are utilized while working with the client. This employee has demonstrated that they understand their role and responsibilities and are able to perform them with limited supervision.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct Walkthrough in the morning and afternoon to ensure everything is okay in the lab, look for spills, equipment, and facility alarms.
  • Waste Management: Daily support and tracking of waste management (i.e., Collection of biowaste, sharps containers, and chemical waste per requested).
  • Sign waste manifest.
  • Gas Management: Daily management of LN2/CO2 gases (i.e., tracking gas levels). Replacing and ordering new gas tanks/cylinders as needed
  • Shipping and Receiving Management: Tracking, shipping, packing slip reconciliation and receiving of mail and packages including domestic, international, and specialty (cold chain). Work with end users to ship out lab samples (“Site Lead” has the major responsibilities of this, but each technician has a piece of this process)
  • Cleaning and Sterilization: Glass wash/autoclaving of glassware (i.e., bottles, beakers, graduated cylinders etc.). Maintain par levels of inventory at stock room and point of use locations.
  • Coordinate and Oversight: Host service technicians and ensure the work is completed according to schedule.
  • Inventory Management: Maintain par levels of inventory at stock room and point of use locations.
  • Assist ULS on inventory management system and manage any discrepancies with Bio Procure/vendor/end-user.
  • Monitoring: Support lab equipment monitoring and respond to equipment failure alerts. 24/7 on call support of lab and building alarms.
  • Installations: Assist with lab equipment installations and relocation. Assist with contacting vendors when a piece of equipment fails.
  • Weekly testing and check of critical emergency equipment/supplies such as eyewash, eye showers, First AID Kit, medicine cabinets, fire extinguisher and spill Kits.
  • Monthly emergency generator runs and record run hours for Safety Partners.
  • Daily check and recording of PH water treatment system.
  • Perform equipment PM ‘s in some equipment such a defrosting low temperature unit (-20*, -80*, 4* freezers, fridges) PM on water bath, incubators, fume hood and Bio Safety Cabinets.
  • Maintain water supplies for Oxygen generator (change water gallons).
  • Work as a team to solve tickets pertain to your floor.
  • Maintenance Work: Patch/paint, hang TVs/whiteboards, wire rack/cart assembly, change lightbulbs, fix door handles, move lab benches/equipment, hang pictures, minor/general “handy man” type duties. Think about end-users’ requests and articulate a solution that meets OSHA/EHS/regulatory requirements.
  • Work closely with you EH&E team to ensure safety guidelines are met.
  • The ability to lift at least 50lbs.
  • Bioreactor Support.

Desired Education and Skills:

• Knowledge of outlook, Microsoft teams, excel, word.

• DOT.

• DOT Training for the Packaging & Shipment of Regulated Medical Waste

• RCRA.

• IATA/UN7733 Category B/UN1845 Dry Ice.

•FROL/HazWoper.

•Facilities training or minimum 5 years’ experience.
