ResponsibilitiesJOB SUMMARY
  • Responsible for 1) interpretation and documentation of the continuous ECG monitoring 2) communication of rhythm changes to the assigned nurse and/or charge nurse 3) maintenance and cleaning of transmitters 4) assuring proper lead placement on patient for clear signal on the non-critical patients on Telemetry. Participates as a member of the team.
Accountabilities
  • ESSENTIAL
  • Communication: Alerts primary nurse to life threatening arrhythmias immediately. Alerts primary nurse to significant changes immediately. Communicates with primary nurse whenever an antiarrhythmic drug is given. Maintains good public relations with patients, families, visitors, doctors, and other employees. Provides an accurate report to oncoming shift and notes rhythm changes.
  • Documentation: Obtains a brief history of patient and documents on Telemetry record. Is aware of lead placement and documents this in Telemetry record. Keeps track of patient's activity and notes such. Documents and labels a strip initially, every four hours and PRN.
  • Professional & Educational: Clocks in and out per policy. Gets Director/AD approval before working overtime. Knows rationale and advantages of various lead placements. Knows current monitoring system and capabilities and has ability to troubleshoot system. Attends 100% of all mandatory meetings. Attends 6 or more unit meetings. Orients new personnel as assigned. Actively participates in Performance Improvement initiatives. Serves on Telemetry Documentation Team. Answers patient call light courteously and promptly. Assures that assigned nurse or designee responds promptly for patient needs. Maintains annual unit specific competencies. Completes annual Rhythm Interpretation Competency test with a score of 85%.
  • Privacy: Assures privacy of all patient information to protect patient rights and meet HIPPA guidelines. Reports suspected violations immediately.
  • Environment & Patient Safety: Maintains patient and work environment to maximize safe working space. Promptly removes all used and soiled equipment, linen, etc. to appropriate location. BMV scanning rates comply with current policy. Reports all patient safety and hazard concerns immediately.
  • Supplies: Maintains accurate documentation of charges and supplies used to ensure adequate supply replacement and efficient use of allocated funds. Tests and recycles transmitter batteries. Physically examines &/or replaces patient transmitter leads to assure proper signal. Cleans and maintains transmitters according to vendor recommendations.
  • Time Management: Clocks in and out according to policy to ensure work is started and completed on time and to lead by example. Obtains Director/designee/House Supervisor approval before working overtime shifts.

    • Required: High School diploma/ GED
    • Preferred: Formal training after high school
  • License and Certifications
    • Required: BLS
Pay Range$12.80 - $17.60 /hour
