Job Summary

The General Manager will plan, direct, coordinate, and oversee operations activities in the organization, ensuring development and implementation of efficient operations and cost-effective systems to meet current and future needs of the organization. Along with senior leadership will determine business activities or initiatives to achieve overall strategic goals. The General Manager will relay information about company needs and review operational data to make inferences, and appropriate course corrections, for the organization’s success. The General Manager will report directly to the InCompass COO.

Duties and Responsibilities

Leadership: Include, but not limited to:

  • Lead team(s) to deliver a high-quality product/service that is delivered on time, within budget, and in the form & substance agreed on as part of the customer quoting process.
  • Lead the Machining, Assembly, Installation, Quality, Procurement, and Logistics Teams and optimize resource utilization.
  • Responsible for directing the efforts of all operational groups to achieve established objectives as well as safety, quality, on-time delivery, and cost.
  • Practices positive employee relations and serves as a key communications facilitator, trainer, coach, and counselor for the operation.
  • Develops and recommends department objectives, plans, budgets, etc. that support the overall financial and strategic plans.
  • Responsible for employee retention through succession planning and by supporting workforce planning, recruitment, and wage parity of highly skilled employees for each responsible group.

Procedure: Include but not limited to:

  • Develop new methods and procedures to reduce waste and excess costs; drives efficiency and direct labor utilization; uses Lean Six Sigma (LSS) and/or Lean Manufacturing Techniques to constantly drive improvement.
  • Interface closely with internal process partners from a scheduling, parts availability, and quality standpoint to assure a smooth flow of production.
  • Ensure that quality and cost requirements are adhered to and that production requirements are met.
  • Oversee facility and equipment including working with equipment personnel on maintenance and repair of all machine shop equipment, accessories, and service needs.
  • Manage inventory levels and disposable tooling.
  • Promote quality and safety.

Technical: Include but not limited to:

  • Will have thorough knowledge of all manufacturing methods, techniques, and related equipment.
  • Must be able to manage multiple tasks and priorities and easily adapt to changing situations.
  • Conflict management and prioritization when needed.
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with all departments.
  • Corrective action leadership utilizing problem solving tools (DMEDI and/or DMAIC) aimed at identifying root cause and actions that lead to continuous improvement.
  • Integral participant in support of pre-sales activities that enable the company and its customers to succeed.

Reporting: Included but not limited to:

  • Complete administrative paperwork as required.
  • Oversee training initiatives and department development.
  • Conduct annual performance reviews for direct reports and 1-up review for all managers/supervisors as per the organizational chart.
  • Develop, maintain, and modify (as needed) department schedules and associated dispatch lists that bring clarity and visibility to key milestones.
  • Resolves scheduling and resource conflicts through proactive and effective communication with upstream and downstream stakeholders and continually strives for on-time delivery to internal and external customers.

Competencies

  • Workpiece blueprints skills, including a working knowledge of GD&T
  • MS Office proficiency
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • 10 years in the manufacturing industry in a service, systems, or planning capacity.
  • Experience in customer relations role (i.e., Technical Support, Sales, Service)
  • Ability to motivate team efforts to accomplish goals.
  • Knowledge and competence interfacing with ERP systems.
  • Resolve scheduling, technical, and financial conflicts through problem solving and collaboration with direct reports and/or other company leaders.
  • Acute customer-first mentality and readily/easily thinks through the eyes of customer satisfaction.

Work Environment

  • Normal office environment, with exposure to shop conditions and customer field visits.

Physical Demands

  • This position requires the ability to occasionally lift products and supplies, up to 50 pounds.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer

Percentage of Travel Required

  • Minimal, but available for travel as needed.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

  • This is a full time position. Hours are Monday – Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. As an exempt position, work hours may be extended.

Required Education & Experience

  • 10 years of Management experience
  • 5 years in Operations
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in business administration and/or engineering/manufacturing field

Preferred Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline
  • MBA and/or advanced education in business or leadership
