Independence Plus is expanding in all our service areas and has an immediate opening for a Medical Assistant (Certified MA preferred) to work out of our Oak Brook, IL (DuPage County) office.
Job Description SummaryThe Medical Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the administrative and operational functions of the home nursing agency. Primarily responsible for assisting with order completion, faxing, uploading orders/clinicals/faxes, and ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (“EMR”) system. This position involves active collaboration with Clinical Managers, field staff, and other team members to maintain the highest standards of patient care and regulatory compliance.
Essential Job Functions / Responsibilities
  • Assist in the completion and verification of patient orders, ensuring accuracy and compliance
  • Upload and organize orders, clinical documents, and faxes into the EMR system
  • Regularly review documentation for completeness, accuracy, and adherence to regulatory standards
  • Work closely with Clinical Managers to update and maintain patients' plans of care
  • Assist in building comprehensive plans of care during the start of care process
  • Coordinate with field staff to ensure proper execution of care plans
  • Answer phones and handle inquiries from patients, family members, and healthcare professionals
  • Document all calls and interactions in the EMR system for future reference
  • Assist with the start of care paperwork, ensuring all necessary documents are completed and filed appropriately
  • Send timely updates and notifications to field staff regarding changes in patient care plans
  • Collaborate with Clinical Managers to coordinate patient care activities and address any issues or concerns
  • Assist in resolving EMR-related issues and provide support to field staff
  • Conduct regular reviews of documentation to ensure compliance with agency standards and regulatory requirements
  • Facilitating the preparation of Letters of Medical Necessity
  • Additional duties as assigned
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant program, Certified MA is preferred
  • Proven experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in home health
  • Familiarity with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system KanTime preferred
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Proficient in using office equipment and computer software
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy
  • Adapts well to changes within a growing company
ENVIRONMENTAL AND WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Able to stand, walk, and sit for four or more consecutive hours
  • Contact with patients under wide variety of circumstances
  • Subject to varying and unpredictable situations
  • Handles emergency and crisis situations
  • This position is a Category I which includes tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, tissues.
