The Earl Monroe New Renaissance Basketball School (EMNRBS) seeks a passionate, energetic, and dedicated School Resource Officer to join our school to start immediately. The ideal candidate will have to experience working at the High School level; a passion for student engagement; a willingness to grow and develop systems; and a passion for working with adolescents in a community with diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
The EMNRBS opened its doors to a diverse freshman class of 110 boys and girls in August 2021; we are excited to welcome our fourth cohort of students in the summer of 2024, bringing our total enrollment to 390. This school is the first specialty high school in the entire country for basketball, but NOT for the PLAYING of the game. Our Founding Trustee, former NBA Commissioner, David Stern, would often say, “A Ball and a Book Can Change the World.”

Essential Functions

• The School Resources Officer (SRO) is responsible for all students and staff's overall safety and well-being, inside and outside the facility's parameters.
• SRO is responsible for accepting incoming deliveries from various carriers (UPS, FedEx, etc.)
• SRO is responsible for greeting and screening all students and visitors.
• SRO is responsible for always walking during and between classes (Monitoring the bathrooms and checking for truancy).
• SRO must maintain visual contact with the security camera system. Rotating the screens to show different locations
• Communicates safety and security policies and enforcement procedures to students, staff, and visitors to ensure their understanding of such information and the potential consequences of violation.
• Conducts and monitors fire drills, lockdowns, and other emergency procedure drills to comply with established guidelines.
• Escorts students, school personnel, and visitors to provide direction, ensure safety, and provide site security.
• Monitors student behavior during and between assigned periods and at student events (e.g., lunchroom, classrooms, detention, dances, home games, 'time outs,' etc.) to ensure

student compliance with established guidelines, maintain a safe and positive learning environment and secure facility.

• Patrols school facilities (e.g., grounds, roads, buildings, adjacent areas, parking lots, etc.) to provide visibility, maintain security and deter criminal activities.
• Refers incidents, including personal injuries, altercations, suspicious activities, rule violations, etc., to appropriate site personnel and city police to ensure follow-up in accordance with administrative, site security, and student safety guidelines.
• Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit
