POSITION SUMMARY:

The Accounting Internship within the Bay Mills Indian Community Accounting Department is designed to provide students with valuable hands-on experience in clerical responsibilities and accounting practices. Our goal is to offer a structured learning environment where interns can gain practical insights while contributing to the overall efficiency of our accounting department.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Collaborate with the Controller and other accounting team members to assist with data entry and reconciliation tasks, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail.
2. Compile and create statistical reports using tools such as Word, Excel, or other relevant software.
3. Perform necessary data entry into the accounting system while maintaining consistency and precision in recording financial transactions.
4. Express a genuine desire to learn and cultivate a career in the accounting field.
5. Aspire to contribute meaningfully to the team’s success.
6. Maintain orderly organizational files and records.
7. Adhere to established accounting processes and procedures to ensure accuracy and compliance.
8. Demonstrate curiosity about financial analysis and seek to understand the flow from the general ledger (GL) to the financial statements.
9. Assist fellow accounting staff members as needed.
10. Undertake miscellaneous tasks assigned by the Controller or Assistant Controller.
11. Adapt to the scope and complexity of this position’s essential functions.
12. Attend all mandatory trainings offered through the Human Resources Department and/or Department Director.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit with occasional walking and standing. Occasionally the employee must bend, squat, crouch, balance, climb height of 2ft, reach above shoulder level, kneel, and push/pull. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. The employee must be able to use both hands for repetitive action such as firm grasping.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

1. A motivated student with a genuine interest in pursuing a career in the accounting field required.
2. Possesses a working knowledge of general office practices and generally accepted accounting principles.
3. Demonstrates strong organizational abilities, attention to detail, and excellent interpersonal skills.
4. Capable of efficiently handling multiple tasks simultaneously.
5. Exhibits excellent verbal and written communication skills.
6. Must provide two letters of recommendation from teachers or administrators.
7. The successful candidate must be able to satisfactorily perform each function listed under the essential functions and physical demands categories outlined in the position description.
