Job Summary

Aquarion Water company is hiring a Service Worker for the Eastern Division. This role will report to the Service Department.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Respond to, assist in customer complaints regarding service, and represent the Company at service calls, developing positive rapport with customers.

  • Assist in the operation of locating service lines and curb boxes.

  • Cross train in our Western Division

  • Operate various hand tools, keys, drills, lights, generators, electronic data collection equipment and use measuring tools such as pressure gauges, measuring tapes, rulers, together with maps, drills and other equipment as necessary.

  • Operate company owned Tough Book computer for paperless field order work.

  • Assist in troubleshooting, and repair of meter problems; read, install and or replace meters and respond to emergency calls.

  • Operate curb stops for Collections department.

  • Comply with company and safety rules, maintain tools and vehicles in clean condition and refer all unusual and difficult problems to Supervisor.

  • Perform other duties as required or requested (e.g., meter read).

  • Once fully trained and working independently position requires participation in a rotating stand-by roster, as required to ensure after-hours coverage and respond to inquiries and emergencies as necessary.

Preferred Requirements

  • Bilingual candidate preferred.

  • Applicants must possess mechanical aptitude, intermediate computer skills, organizational ability, and effective communications skills, both oral and written.

  • Knowledge of plumbing and water utility experience are desirable.

  • Applicants must be able to use hand tools (such as wrenches and gate/curb keys), drive, stand for prolonged periods of time, walk long distances, lift 100 pounds, have the ability to obtain First Aid/CPR certifications, and work in confined spaces.

Education/Certifications

  • Candidate must possess a high school diploma.

  • A valid State of Connecticut driver’s license to operate a motor vehicle with a clean driving record required.

  • License & Certifications: position requires attainment of D1, D2 and D3 during appropriate intervals, but must be attained no later than 4 years from assuming the position, or quicker as allowed by the State of CT. Upon attainment of D3 Certification, employee will be eligible for standby rotation and position upgraded to a Grade 9.

Salary

  • Job is classified as an hourly Grade 8, with a rate range that has a training wage of $38.69 per hour, until the chosen applicant obtains a treatment license.

  • If the chosen applicant already holds a desired license, applicant will be eligible to start at a Grade 9.

  • Successful applicant will move through Steps 1 through 9 of the range at 6-month intervals with satisfactory performance to the maximum salary.
