WEEKEND RN NURSING SUPERVISOR

****BAYLOR PROGRAM OFFERED****

BASE SALARY BEGINNING AT $31.00/HR

JOB SUMMARY:
The RN Nursing Supervisor works with the Nursing Staff of the facility in the absence of the Director of Nursing being in the facility. This may be on weekends, the Director’s days off, or shifts other than those when the Director is in the facility. He/She plans, organizes, coordinates and directs the nursing functions for the professional and non-professional nursing personnel to ensure the highest quality of care is provided in a cost effective manner with the residents in the facility.
This is done in an efficient and timely manner with consideration for both health care and legal
responsibilities of the resident, the facility and the employees.
The Supervisor’s role within the chain of command is to act as a resource person, providing the
necessary information and assistance to the staff which will enable them to perform their duties
and responsibilities in the best manner possible. The Supervisor serves as a primary
communication link among shifts and units.

EDUCATION:
He/She must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing currently registered with the state
agency for nursing licensure and hold a valid Nurse’s License in the state he/she is employed.

QUALIFCATIONS:
1. Demonstrates leadership and managerial ability.
2. Has the ability to organize, plan and supervise the Nursing Department in coordination
with other resident services during the hours as designated by the Director of Nursing.
3. Demonstrates the ability to lead the Nursing Department in a cost effective,
professional manner.
4. Maintains effective interpersonal relationships.
5. Is capable of implementing changes as determined by the Director of Nursing.
6. Is of good emotional, mental and physical health, having sound judgment and high
professional standards.
7. Is courteous in working with residents, families and employees.
8. Maintains a neat, well-groomed and professional appearance at all times.
9. Has a desire to work with the geriatric residents and their current and prospective
needs.
10. Must be willing to be in the facility working with the staff of the shifts as designated by
the Director of Nursing.
11. Must be willing to be in the facility during weekday as well as weekend hours.
12. Must demonstrate ability to follow policies, procedures, practices and direction without
the direct supervision of the Director of Nursing.
13. Must demonstrate ability to evaluate the geriatric resident’s needs and implement
systems to meet those needs.
14. Must demonstrate ability to evaluate nursing staff needs and implement systems to
assure staff education is provided to provide quality care.
15. Must demonstrate the ability to function as a cooperative team member with the
nursing as well as all disciplines in the facility,
16. Must demonstrate ability to manage Nursing Department within designated staffing
and supply budget.
17. Is willing and capable of providing emergency care as needed for any resident in the
facility.
18. Must have a pre-employment and an annual Tuberculosis screening examination.

RESPONSIBILTIES:
1. Ensures that each unit is appropriately staffed at the beginning of the shift. Makes
adjustments as necessary, replacing staff as needed for the oncoming shift.
2. Makes rounds at the beginning of assigned shift and frequently thereafter:
 Evaluating care
 Supervising professional and non-professional staff
 Communicating with residents, families, and staff
 Assuring optimal environmental standards are being maintained
 Checking emergency equipment
 Investigating any unusual occurrence
 Any other tasks as necessary or assigned
3. Assists with care as necessary to assure quality care is provided. This may include but
is not conclusive of assisting with ADL’s, giving medications, doing treatments,
supervising and assisting with meal service, calling physicians, transcribing orders,
etc.
4. Assesses each resident in acute distress or unusual situations during the scheduled
time in the facility.
5. Recognizes significant changes in the condition of residents and takes appropriate
action.
6. Reports any resident care problems to the Director of Nursing on a timely basis.
7. Reviews nursing communications systems of the previous shifts to assure adequate
follow up is provided for each situation.
8. Reviews the clinical records to assure documentation is complete.
9. Documents on those clinical records requiring supervisory assessment and
intervention.
10. Reviews and formulates plans of care as needed. Assists with assessments and
reassessments as assigned in preparation for care plan conference and updates.
11. Familiarizes self with fire and disaster plan, location of fire extinguishers, evacuation
route, and other emergency preparedness plans. Assists staff with these procedures if
necessary.
12. Works as staff relief in emergencies.
13. Assists with inservice programs as needed to assure compliance.
14. Coordinates activities between nursing and other departments.
15. Acts in the absence of the Administrator and Director of Nursing to interpret and
enforce facility policy. Conducts self in manner that will uphold the philosophy of the
facility and maintain current high standard of care.
16. Makes appropriate notes and communication books and systems.
17. Performs additional duties as directed by the Director of Nursing or Administrator.

Requires full range of body motion including:
1. Standing/Walking: Continuously.
Worker will be spending almost all of time in the facility walking about in the facility
assisting or supervising various tasks as per job description.
2. Bending/Stooping: Occasionally.
Worker will be bending or stooping to assist other staff members to care for residents or
supervising the care being provided, etc.
3. Lifting/Handling: Occasionally.
Worker will be lifting or handling residents and equipment to assist other staff members to
care for residents or supervising the care being provided. Range of Weight: 1-50 punds.
4. Carrying: Occasionally.
Worker will be carrying equipment, assisting to transport residents, etc., to assist other
staff members to care for residents or supervising the care being provided. Range of
Weight: 1-50 pounds.
5. Push/Pull: Occasionally.
Worker will be pushing or pulling on equipment or residents to assist other staff members
to care for residents or supervising the care being provided. Range of Weight: 1-50
pounds.
6. Balancing: Occasionally.
Worker will be balancing when assisting other staff members to care for residents or
supervising the care being provided.
7. Twisting/Turning: Occasionally.
Worker will be pivoting or turning when assisting other staff members to care for residents
or supervising the care being provided.
8. Crouching/Stooping: Occasionally.
Worker will be crouching or stooping when assisting other staff members to care for
residents or supervising the care being provided.
9. Kneeling: Occasionally.
Worker will be kneeling when assisting other staff members to care for residents or
supervising the care being provided.
10. Reaching:
Worker will be reaching when assisting other staff members to care for residents or
supervising the care being provided.

Both fine and gross motor skills are needed for all tasks throughout the working day.

JOB LOCATION:
Must work throughout all nursing areas of the facility. May require working irregular hours and
may be exposed to communicable diseases and/or body fluids, medical preparations, toxic
substances and occasionally ionizing radiation.
