Title: Electrical Commissioning Technician
Position Type: Contract
Location: Brandywine, MD
Reports to: Project Manager
Status: Non-Exempt
Job Summary:
PIC Group has an immediate need for a short-term Electrical Commissioning Technician supporting a BESS project in Brandywine, MD. The Electrical Commissioning Technician reports directly to the Project Manager and is responsible for overseeing and executing the commissioning and testing of electrical systems for the project. The Electrical Commissioning Technician will coordinate with engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure that electrical systems are fully functional, compliant with industry safety standards and regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Ensuring all Health, Safety & Environmental protocol is followed at site at all times.
  • Overseeing the Quality Assurance/Quality Control project protocol is followed.
  • Manage project expectations, avoiding schedule delays and maintaining project budget.
  • Responsible for direct interface with construction personnel and coordinating construction completion in areas and systems under assignment.
  • Generates and maintains records of tests and other startup related activities.
  • Assist the construction team in execution of required pre-commissioning activities.
  • Establishes and maintains communications with project personnel to ensure accurate and timely flow of information.
  • Advises startup management of developments that may affect project profit, costs, schedules, and client relations.
  • Develops, reviews, and approves electrical commissioning procedures.
  • Track and report on all issues affecting Electrical Startup and Commissioning, promptly advising team of issues that may impact achievement of project goals and objectives.
  • Record and maintain as-built documentation and submit it to the Engineers for updates.
  • Effectively manage the interconnection of battery segments and awareness of safety risk involved with connecting to charged batteries. keeping workers and equipment safe
  • Manage the AC/DC battery job requirements effectively, with particular focus to DC battery systems.
  • Prepare and manage Job Safety Analysis reports as required to support commissioning.
Job Requirements:
  • Competent with reading and interpreting all electrical systems design, operating and maintenance principles.
  • Prior hands-on working experience in understanding electrical commissioning and operational principles, with particular focus on AC/DC Battery Systems.
  • Demonstrated experience with all OSHA requirements.
  • Knowledgeable with how to read and comprehend a project schedule and budgets.
  • Detailed understanding of the requirements of Health, Safety, and Environmental protocol typically found in a construction project.
  • Detailed understanding of electrical checkout and testing procedures.
  • Demonstrated successful performance track record as a commissioning and start up electrical professional of multiple power projects.
  • Capable of performing in a fast-paced, multitasking environment.
  • Proficient in communication with all levels of personnel, both in writing and in person.
  • Proficient with use of Microsoft Office Products (Access, Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook)
Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods of standing, stooping and walking.
  • Must be able to hear emergency alarms, see peripherally, have a keen sense of smell, and be able to use all extremities.
  • Capable of lifting to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to work in extreme temperatures.
Education / Experience:
  • HS Diploma or GED required.
  • Electrical Engineering Degree or Electrical Technology Certification preferred, not required.
  • OSHA 10- or 30-Hour Training preferred, not required.
  • 10 years electrical commissioning & startup experience on similar construction projects.
  • 10 years’ experience in power generation.
  • 5 years experience in BESS Systems strongly preferred, not required.
