Job Profile Summary

Accessioning technicians are responsible for organizing and managing the flow of materials into a laboratory. Accessioners typically have a wide range of responsibilities that may include everything from receiving new samples to maintaining inventory records and tracking down missing items. They may also be tasked with ensuring that all incoming materials are properly labeled and organized so they can easily be identified later on.

Skills and Qualifications

• 1-2 years of experience in a laboratory setting
• Excellent communication and customer service skills
• Ability to work independently with little supervision
• Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
• Experience working with laboratory information management systems
• Experience accessioning blood specimens, urine specimens, wound specimens, and respiratory specimens.

Education

High School Diploma or equivalent

Job Responsibilities

• Perform data entry of patient information into the LIM with a high degree of accuracy
• Accession specimens according to departmental policies and procedures
• Verify that all required information is present on requisitions prior to specimen processing
• Label specimens with identifying information using standard operating procedures
• Prepare specimens for testing according to established protocols
• Perform clerical duties such as filing, faxing, and photocopying as needed
• Answer phones and direct calls to the appropriate personnel
• Respond to customer inquiries in a professional and courteous manner
• Maintain a clean and organized work area
• Adhere to all safety policies and procedures
• Comply with all HIPAA regulations
• Other duties as needed

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $16.00 per hour
