Overview

As a leader in image guidance solutions, IMRIS, Deerfield Imaging provides optimized, fully integrated image-guided therapy environments that address the important needs of patients, clinicians, and hospitals by delivering timely MRI and imaging data to clinicians for use during surgical or interventional procedures. The IMRIS Surgical Theatre enables intraoperative imaging directly within operating rooms. The Company also designs and manufactures proprietary head fixation devices, imaging coils and OR tables for use in this unique and multifunctional intraoperative environment. It is estimated that over 70,000 patients have benefited from lifesaving or life-extending procedures performed in an IMRIS Surgical Theatre. IMRIS will continue to integrate new intraoperative imaging technologies and shape the future of neurosurgery in operating rooms worldwide.

We are currently searching for a Mechanical Engineer II to join our SSI team in Billerica, MA location. This role will be performed on-site and is based in the greater Boston area. Please note: There is no relocation offered for this role. The ideal candidate should reside in the greater Boston area.

The Mechanical Engineer II is responsible for the design & development of superconducting magnets for MRI and scientific applications. This individual will apply their mechanical experience and develop new skills in the integration and development of technology of future IMRIS-SSI products. This individual will research, design, evaluate and document superconducting magnets to meet project goals and project requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare recommendations for the design and development of superconducting magnets, including changes to existing products.
  • Read and interpret 3D models, technical drawings, schematics, standards and technical reports.
  • Support concept generation and selection, driven by design requirements.
  • Prepare 3D models, designs, drawings and other specifications for product definition.
  • Support design reviews and generation of the supporting review information.
  • Generate bill of materials for superconducting magnets and manage inventory of parts and materials using standard software.
  • Participate in building of superconducting magnets as well as assist in verification and validation of performance of magnets.
  • Participate in cross-functional product risk analysis.
  • Communicate and coordinate effectively with a cross functional team to establish robust, manufacturable product design that meets specification requirements.
  • Participate in design transfer of IMRIS-SSI product to both external vendors and the internal IMRIS manufacturing department.
  • Maintain detailed and comprehensive records of all inventive ideas, designs, and basic improvements.
  • Follow the IMRIS-SSI product development process through initial design to final production stages.
  • Accurately document product issues for future reference and problem resolution.
  • Verify conformity to design standards and specifications.
  • Participate in final assembly of superconducting magnets as well as assist in verification and validation of magnet performance.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

  • Design experience with 3D modeling, SolidWorks preferred.
  • Experience performing FEA structural analysis.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

  • Reports to the President of SSI

EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 3 years industry experience in mechanical product design.
  • Knowledge of root cause analysis on product deficiency issues.
  • Team oriented – values synergy of group efforts and invests the effort required to create group solutions.
  • Basic knowledge of machine component manufacture processes including mill, lathe and sheet metal forming.
  • Driven by a sense of mission and clearly articulates goals to achieve specific results. Takes the initiative to complete important tasks.
  • Knowledge of tolerance analysis.
  • Knowledge of root cause analysis and FMEA.
  • Knowledge of GD&T principles preferred.
  • Knowledge of cryogenic and cryogenic devises preferred knowledge of construction of vacuum vessels preferred.
  • Awareness of FDA 21 CFR Part 820, ISO 13485 and IEC 60601 preferred.
  • Medical device development experience preferred.
