We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer (Plastics Design) specializing in plastics design to perform assignments requiring basic education of engineering fundamentals, designing new products or making improvements to existing products. Work on cost of componentry, systems and phases of intermediate size projects. Responsible for support functions for internal or external Engineering Department interfaces.
Essential Job Responsibilities
  • Design plastic assemblies and components in a 3D CAD environment.
  • Convert existing components to plastics designs for design improvements and cost savings.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of various plastic materials and how they interact with other materials.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of various plastics manufacturing processes (injection molding, machining, plastic casting, etc.)
  • May also be required to work on other mechanical designs such as castings, machining, and sheet metal.
  • Ability to work within a collaborative design environment.
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding and a proficient use of 3D CAD software.
  • Creation and maintenance of accurate Bills of Material (BOM) utilizing PLM.
  • Develop and maintain product structure.
  • Release and maintain designs using the Nuvera Engineering Change processes.
  • Proficient with clear and accurate documentation such as 2D drawings, P&ID, etc.
  • Development and maintenance of design standards and working practices.
  • Ability to work in a team environment collaborating with members of multiple disciplines and cross-functional groups.
  • Ability and desire to lead design and concept reviews.
  • Demonstrate problem-solving skills.
Required Job Qualifications (unless Otherwise Noted)Educational Background
  • Bachelor of Science (or equivalent) in related field
Previous Work Experience
  • 6 years related work experience.
Skills And Abilities
  • 2D & 3D CAD (Solidworks preferred)
  • 3D Surfacing
  • PLM
  • GD&T
Travel Required
  • Minimal domestic travel may be required.
Physical Requirements/Work Environment
  • Both office and lab work will be required for the execution of this position’s responsibilities. Lab work may include the use of power and hand tools.
  • Ability to lift components weighing up to 35 lbs. is required.
