Gould Academy announces a search for a full-time Athletic Trainer to begin in August of 2024.
Athletic Trainer is a member of the Health Services department providing services for the management and provision of care of injuries for the students of Gould Academy. They are responsible for the rendering of emergency care, development of injury prevention programs and providing appropriate preventative and devices for the physically active person. Gould Academy is a residential boarding school and in addition to Athletic Trainer responsibilities could include weekly community duties.
Key Duties And Responsibilities Athletic TrainerAthletic Health Care Coordination and Coverage
  • Coordinate with the Director of Health Services and Dean of Athletics & Co-Curricular to ensure athletes have access to athletic health care.
  • Provide access for students during daytime hours Monday to Friday when school is in session.
  • Provide on-site coverage at home games and events.
Athletic Injury Management and Rehabilitation
  • Assess, manage, provide treatment, and rehabilitate physically active individuals within the scope of a certified athletic trainer's education.
  • Use modalities such as mechanical stimulation, heat, cold, light, air, water, electricity, ultrasound, and massage.
  • Implement and advise on therapeutic exercises, reconditioning exercise, and fitness programs for adolescent students.
Record Keeping
  • Maintain adequate medical quality records on all injuries and rehabilitation procedures in an electronic medical record.
  • Comply with all policies regarding health care delivery as indicated by Gould Academy and Health Services Procedures Manual.
  • Abide by industry confidentiality standards regarding private medical information and student care records
Injury Prevention and Immediate Care
  • Provide immediate care of athletic injuries and refer athletes to medical facilities when necessary.
  • Provide for the prevention of athletic injuries through the application of protective tapings, wraps, and braces, and assist in the design of practices to help reduce the incidence of injury.
  • Assess, monitor, refer, and follow-up athletes suspected of sustaining concussions or other traumatic brain injuries, and document such actions.

  • Thorough knowledge of professional athletic training principles, methods, and procedures.
  • Understanding of anatomy and physiology applicable to assigned duties.
  • Familiarity with medical supplies and equipment used in athletic training practice.
  • Working knowledge of applicable state and federal laws and regulations pertaining to certified athletic training.
  • Ability to analyze emergency situations accurately and take prompt action.

Physical Requirements
  • Physical and mobility requirements will require the ability to remain standing for extended periods of time, go up and down flights of steps, lift and push heavy objects as well as stoop, squat, bend, kneel, crouch, and lift.
  • Ability to lift and transport up to 50 lbs without assistance.
  • Ability to withstand exposure to inclement weather.
  • Ability to hear within normal range and to see with normal parameters.
  • Ability to run across uneven field surfaces in a reasonable amount of time to care for emergency situations.
  • Finger dexterity to use, for example, a keyboard.
  • Communication skills using the spoken and written word.
  • Ability to perform CPR and first aid procedure
Educational Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred.
  • CSCS or PES preferred.
  • Certified by the Board of Certification (BOC) and maintain standards established by the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) role delineation study.
  • Obtain and maintain state licensure as an athletic trainer.
  • Current certification in CPR, or willingness to be certified.
