Essential Functions

1.Under general direction, serves as Landscape Architect for Region 5:
  • Prepares annual Regional Capital budget proposals.
  • Provides preliminary planning (concept and schematic plans) to guide funded capital projects.
  • Coordinates regional reviews on all capital projects and initiates threatened and endangered species and cultural resources reviews and sign-offs.
  • Reviews AE plans and specifications to ensure compliance with Departmental objectives.
  • Travels to inspect construction, especially grading, site work and landscaping.

2. Provides design and planning services for site developments e.g., roads, parking signs, utilities, in order to ensure the quality of facilities and protection of resources.

3. Analyzes resource management and outdoor recreation issues and develops recommendations for their resolution:
  • Resolves interagency conflicts and explores opportunities.
  • Makes recommendations on easements, rights-of-way encroachments to ensure minimal impact to Department lands.
4. Carries out feasibility studies, land use plans and special projects to guide acquisition, development, and management of Department area for other initiatives:
  • Chairs task force to address these issues.
5. Develops Department recommendation on land acquisition proposals and land offerings:
  • Coordinates regional reviews for all potential land acquisitions within Region 5 by suppling maps and legal descriptions of each parcel under consideration to acquire.
  • Evaluates the suitability of lands for conservation and recreation programs.
6. Participates as a member of multi-disciplinary task forces in the preparation of comprehensive plans and special studies:
  • Provides landscape architectural technical and research services.

7. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.


Minimum Qualifications

1. Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture supplemented by two years progressively responsible professional experience in landscape architecture work.
2. Requires possession of a valid Illinois certificate as a registered landscape architect.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Two (2) years of through knowledge of methods and procedures used in the analysis of land, water, soil, vegetation, and climate for land use planning purposes.
2. Two (2) years of knowledge of methods, procedures, and techniques utilized in conducting on-site inspections of agency properties.
3.Two (2) years of experience determining environmental impact of landscape projects.
