The Emerge Center is Hiring a Special Education Teacher Near Baton Rouge, LA

Job DescriptionThe Emerge School for Autism is seeking a self-contained special education teacher to work in a growing therapeutic elementary school for children with an Autism Spectrum Disorder in the Greater Baton Rouge area. We are looking to add an energetic, motivated, and innovative team member to our fast paced education team.
Job Description: To create a flexible education program, provide instruction, assessment and program planning for special education students with an Autism Spectrum Disorder; to monitor and evaluate student progress and behavior; to establish effective rapport with students, parents and colleagues; to motivate students to develop skills, knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for elementary grade education in accordance with each student's ability.Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Implement the educational program and comprehensive related services as outlined in the student's Individual Education Plan (IEP) by developing and reviewing IEPs, monitoring and evaluating the progress of students, and communicating with members of the therapeutic team and the Case manager
  • Collaborate with a team of therapists including, but not limited to occupational therapists, speech therapists, adapted physical education and behavior analysts to utilize accommodations throughout the students' days
  • Communicate with parents to discuss students' progress and maintain a supportive and cooperative relationship between school and home.
  • Employ a variety of methods for students to demonstrate learning and accomplishments, adjusting learning experiences and requesting advice from specialists or therapists when appropriate.
  • Establish and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  • Evaluate students' academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare progress reports.
  • Establish the schedule, role, responsibilities and expectations for the lead assistant and assistant teachers assigned to the teacher. Direct assistant teachers, student teachers, instructional assistants, volunteers and/or student workers in providing an effective classroom program and addressing individual students' needs.
  • Adhere to Louisiana school law, State Board of Education rules and regulations, school regulations and procedures.
  • Complete in a timely fashion all records and reports as required by law and regulation or requested by the Principal. Maintain accurate attendance records and service logs.
Education:
  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in a related field
  • Current PK-3 regular education or special education certificate by Louisiana Department of Education or be eligible to be issued a certificate upon hiring
Experience:
  • Experience running a classroom, preferably an inclusive classroom with children with exceptionalities such as speech delays and autism spectrum disorders is a plus.
  • 1-5 years of experience (preferred)
