Louisiana High School Athletic Association is Hiring a Director of Communications and Media Relations Near Baton Rouge, LA

Job Description:

The Director of Communications at the Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) plays a crucial role in shaping the public image and communication strategies of the organization. This individual will be responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive communication plans to effectively engage with stakeholders and media outlets. The Director of Communications will report directly to the Executive Director and work closely with assistant executive directors.

Responsibilities:

  • Communications: Develop and maintain communication strategies to effectively engage with stakeholders, including member schools, coaches, student-athletes, parents, and the entire state. Utilize various communication channels such as newsletters, email campaigns, and website updates to disseminate information and updates.
  • State Championship Media Liaison: Attend LHSAA state championship events across various sports and cities as a representative of the organization. Coordinate media coverage, assist with event logistics, and ensure a positive experience media personnel.
  • Review Media Credential Applications: Review and approve/deny media credential applications for LHSAA state championship events. Ensure compliance with credentialing policies and procedures while accommodating legitimate media representatives and outlets.
  • General Media Liaison: Serve as the primary point of contact for media inquiries, interview requests, and media partnerships. Build and maintain relationships with journalists, reporters, and media outlets to facilitate positive media coverage and promote LHSAA's mission and initiatives.
  • Press Releases: Draft, edit, and distribute press releases to announce important updates, events, and initiatives of LHSAA. Ensure that press releases are accurate, timely, and align with the organization's messaging and goals.
  • Social Media Management: Oversee LHSAA's presence on social media platforms (e.g., X, Facebook, Instagram) to enhance brand visibility, promote events, and interact with followers. Create engaging content, monitor social media channels, and respond to inquiries and comments in a timely and professional manner.

Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Sports Administration, or a related field required.
  • Experience: At least 2 years of experience in communications or sports marketing.
  • Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong organizational abilities, proficiency in social media management, and familiarity with media relations.
  • Attributes: A proactive and detail-oriented mindset, the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and a passion for promoting high school athletics and student-athlete success.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $55,777.00 - $65,232.00 per year
