Job Description

During the bridge operating season; safely operates and maintains a drawbridge in accordance to Federal, State and local regulations and procedures.

Measures, records and logs environmental and bridge operating data as required. Routinely monitor, performs basic diagnostics, and repairs / maintains bridge machinery.

Assist with traffic control as required, and performs routine custodial duties.

During the non-bridge operating season, reports to the Highway Division Supervisor for assignment to a DPW crew(s) as a Highway Laborer / Craftsperson.

Performs routine manual work in public works construction and maintenance activities; all other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma with one year experience in public works related activities; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

CDL Class B drivers license or ability to obtain during first six months of employment. Must be able to swim. Massachusetts Class 4G Hoisting License and Massachusetts 2B and IC Hydraulic licenses.

Additional Qualifications

Must possess a working knowledge of, and have some experience with, heavy-duty mechanical / electrical equipment. Knowledge of traffic flagging rules and regulations;

U.S. Coast Guard regulations governing waterways and bridges; and other Federal, State and Local regulations and procedures preferred.

Ability to understand and carry out oral instruction. Ability to perform heavy manual labor under varying weather conditions.

Ability to observe required safety precautions. Ability to take direction and carry out tasks independently.

Ideally will have skills in basic machinery maintenance, and diagnostics. Have skill reading amp and volt gauges, reading tide charts and weather patterns.

$956.90 -$1,033.45 weekly benefits (Dependent on Licensure)
