The Jackson Laboratory is Hiring a Building maintenance Near Bar Harbor, ME

The Jackson Laboratory has an exciting opportunity available for a Supervisor, Building Maintenance!

Under limited direction of the Maintenance Manager oversees all maintenance activities for Electrical, Carpentry and Fire Protection / Security System crews serving the Bar Harbor and Ellsworth facilities.

Key Responsibilities :

Technical Oversight & Responsibility

  • Oversee preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance on all associated assets to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the facility.
  • Interact with internal clients, Jax Engineering and associated contractors to establish accurate scope of requested work, effective scheduling and timely execution of work.
  • Perform QA inspections on completed and in-progress maintenance & improvement projects for conformance with institutional standards and engineering specifications.
  • Analyze operational, maintenance and energy data to predict operating inefficiencies and initiate proactive repair & modification of operating equipment and systems to enable continuous reliable and economic service.
  • Organize, maintain, and ensure proper use and care of an inventory of tools, test equipment, spare parts and supplies.

Leadership and Management Responsibilities

  • Supervise Maintenance Technicians including recommendations for hiring, firing, performance evaluation, training, work allocation, and problem resolution.
  • Acts as a primary contact and liaison for maintenance & construction contractors and regulatory agencies working with facility related topics.
  • Acts as a role model to educate and communicate the importance of the maintenance and uptime of facilities system.

Fiscal Responsibilities

  • Prepare budgets and work scopes for contracted maintenance activities.
  • Prepares bid specifications and negotiates with contractors and vendors to develop and award service and maintenance contracts.
  • Manage established budgets for maintenance, assigned projects and energy use.
  • Provide input on long term capital improvement plans and annual budget process for facility related cost centers.

Safety & Quality

  • Ensure that safety of personnel, animals and physical assets are of the highest degree.
  • Ensure that safety and environmental policies and procedures are adhered to including but not limited to OSHA, lock out-tag out, confined space entry, MSDS, and required federal, state, and local codes and regulations.
  • Work with EHS to maintain a high level of safety training for Maintenance employees and participate in the review and development of safety related processes and procedures.
  • Monitor quality of maintenance and project related tasks to ensure minimal rework.
  • Take personal responsibility for the maintenance of required environments in animal rooms and research spaces. Ensure the continuous monitoring of environments and appropriate response to variances in accordance with established SOPs.

Continuously monitor established SOPs for compliance and completeness. Strive to improve upon existing process.

Requirements :

  • Record of successful leadership in a technical environment. Ability to supervise and train staff, including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Two year technical Degree (or equivalent) in a related field with minimum 5 years experience.
  • Knowledge of fire protection systems, utilities, electrical distribution systems, and building trades (carpentry / masonry), including maintenance, troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repair.
  • Knowledge of computerized maintenance management principles as related to work flow, scheduling, supplies, equipment, and inventory control.
  • Demonstrated computer, organizational, and technical reading experience.
  • Records keeping skills for regulatory and in house documents.
  • Ability to read, understand and audit engineering drawings.
  • Ability to interpret utility plant operational data and make service decisions.

Pay Range : $73,305 - $122,730 per year, dependent on experience level.
