Railway Products Group, Inc is Hiring a Manufacturing Production Manager Near Baltimore, MD

COMPANY DESCRIPTION:

Railway Products Group Inc. (RPG) designs, engineers, and fabricates parts for transit and railroad vehicles, including heavy rail long distance cars, metros, light rail vehicles, streetcars and ferries. We have been in business for 35 years and serve many Federal, State and private company customers. Our office and 50,000 square foot factory is in Baltimore, MD. We do everything from fiberglass to metal fabrication and are an Industry 4.0 company now integrating 3D printing, robotic and CNC manufacturing into our products.

POSITION SUMMARY:

RPG is looking for a production manager that is familiar with modern manufacturing methods and that can plan and supervise daily production operations and introduce and maintain process controls to deliver high quality products, on time and within budget. This management position is responsible for overseeing all phases of production, including production planning and scheduling, fabrication, and quality assurance of all of RPG’s products. The ideal candidate will have a passion for making things and staying up to date with advancing technology.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervise and direct the activities of 20 product assemblers requiring mechanical, carpentry and electrical skills. Selects, trains, motivates, counsels and rewards subordinate staff to achieve production goals, while maintaining a professional relationship and respectful demeanor to all staff. Instructs staff in the areas of quality control, general manufacturing procedures, and safety issues. Must work towards continuous improvement in all areas of production.

Ensures proper and full utilization of manpower and material resources to meet production goals, eliminate downtime, injuries and rejected product. Overall responsibility for development and maintenance of employee training programs relative to all manufacturing processes. Establishes and enforces process controls and procedures.

Maintains control of production man-hours by establishing and monitoring efficiency reports. Reviews weekly production reports to maintain and improve scheduled production levels.

Coordinates with executive and program management, engineering, quality control, purchasing, and warehousing departments. Ensures smooth flow of critical components and maintains schedules and inventories.

Directs quality assurance program in all phases of production operations.

Must be comfortable in a rapidly growing technological environment. Must be able to think creatively and independently in leading a team effort to resolve operating issues.

REQUIREMENTS

Education:

A Bachelor’s degree is required or demonstrated experience in a production management environment.

Experience:

Must have minimum 5 years experience in production management, including:

  • Ability to plan, introduce and manage planned manufacturing processes such as Cellular manufacturing, Lean manufacturing or other.
  • Familiarity with metalworking processes
  • Familiarity with producing complex assemblies with multiple parts.
  • Good mechanical skills,
  • Ability to read product and assembly drawings,
  • Familiarity with quality control programs; ISO experience preferable,
  • Able to troubleshoot problems and resolve bottlenecks to maintain customer delivery commitments,
  • Good writing and communication skills necessary to interact with subordinates, other departments and clients.
  • Basic computer skills,
  • Knowledgeable with OSHA requirements,
  • Excellent supervisory and organizational skills to direct the activities of subordinates and proper utilization of manpower and materials in growing production environment,
  • Ability to stay on top of changing industry best practices and methods.

Position reports to Vice President/Chief Operation Officer

Salary based on experience and what you can bring to our company.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $75,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
