University of Colorado Anschutz Medical CampusDepartment: Health Data CompassJob Title: Business Intelligence (BI) DeveloperPosition #: 00811598 – Requisition #: 30403Job Summary:The primary responsibility of the BI Developer is to analyze and deliver datasets in response to faculty healthcare data requests. The BI Developer will contribute to Compass’ mission of serving the Anschutz research community within a HIPAA-compliant environment. The BI Developer will support healthcare investigators, faculty, and staff, internal and external to Compass. A successful BI Developer candidate will own and drive requests and projects to completion, communicate expectations, be a creative problem solver, and write documentation clearly and concisely.
Supervision Received: This position will report to the Data Request Program Manager

Examples of Work Performed:
  • Independently writes and delivers SQL queries to create high-quality data sets or data marts. The BI Developer executes assigned data requests within scope, quality, and targeted timeline for delivery. As necessary the BI Developer will identify and communicate data anomalies.
  • Strives for positive customer experiences as determined by project completion surveys and customer interviews. The BI Developer demonstrates strong reliability and responsiveness by communicating internally and externally within 24 business hours.
  • Works closely with Compass Data Analyst for data requests where Compass Data Analyst leads customer engagement, scoping, and request documentation. For projects without an assigned Compass Data Analyst the BI Developer will fulfill this role and communicate directly with clinicians or researchers.
  • Conducts accurate and timely documentation of project effort and status using the Compass case management system.
  • Schedules and coordinates meetings with faculty or study teams as necessary to discuss data requests.
  • Contributes to data delivery process optimization and organizational policy refinement.
  • May facilitate, process, and/or escalate user requirements for data and infrastructure in the Compass Google Cloud Platform, following organizational policies and procedures.

Qualifications:Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a health science-related field (e.g., biostatistics, epidemiology, etc.) or technology (e.g., computer science, engineering, etc.), or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • At least two (2) years of experience working with enterprise data warehouses, including data profiling, data quality assessments, data analysis/reporting, data set curation OR experience with SQL programming OR experience with clinical healthcare.
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in a health science-related field (e.g., biostatistics, epidemiology, etc.) or technology (e.g., computer science, engineering, etc.), or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Advanced BI Developer skills.
  • SQL programming expertise.
  • Experience managing terminology mapping documentation, data profiling, and data mapping documentation.
  • Experience with clinical data and/or reporting from EHR (e.g., Epic proficiencies, certifications, or experience with Epic Clarity/Caboodle).
  • Experience in standardized clinical code systems (e.g., SNOMED CT, LOINC, RxNorm) and common data models (OMOP).
  • Experience with data manipulation languages (e.g., SAS, R, Python).
  • Experience working with secure web platforms for building and managing databases (e.g., REDCAP).
Competencies/Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
  • Experience working in an academic core service or support service.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience working within HIPAA-compliant and other sensitive data environments.
  • SQL skills for querying data (especially for cloud computing).
  • Strong analytical skills, critical thinking, attention to detail and accuracy, and strong interpersonal skills.

Anticipated Pay Range:The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $66,196 to $79,732.
The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
