Kaiser Permanente is Hiring a Director, Risk Management Near Atlanta, GA

Job Summary:

Directs the development, implementation, and ongoing effectiveness of risk management programs and strategies. Responsible for the Risk Management Program Description and Measures of Effectiveness. Develops and implements service & quality improvement activities for the department. Provides leadership & consultation in identifying and implementing strategic and tactical solutions to actual or potential adverse events. Requires leadership by influence. Assures the successful implementation of local and regional-scale projects designed to reduced risk to the organization, physicians, staff, and members. Partners with National KP safety and risk management programs. Supervises assigned program staff. Accountable for creating a culture of compliance, ethics, and integrity. Accountable for proactively improving risk mitigation strategies and preventing harm, minimizing risk, reducing or loss exposure within Georgia region. Oversees risk management activities to include processing claims filed against the facility, interfacing with defense legal counsel, administering education programs and complying with risk management related standards. Maintains knowledge of policies and procedures and performs in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements and accreditation standards as they relate to the Enterprise Risk Management for the KP GA Region.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Directs the development, implementation, and ongoing effectiveness of programs and strategies to achieve risk management program goals. Guides department in the development and implementation of quality monitoring processes. Monitors performance against established targets. Plans and conducts strategies to effectively develop individuals and build teams to ensure a competent and motivated staff: provides leadership and support.
  • Supervises assigned staff to include interviewing, selecting, training, motivating, evaluating, counseling, disciplining, and terminating in compliance with EEO/AA goals and personnel policies of the organization. Manages the day-to-day supervisory, professional, technical, and clerical activities of risk management program. Establishes a collaborative working relationship with appropriate managers to identify and facilitate operational changes needed to improve and/or support care delivery and reduce risk to the organization, physicians, staff, and members. Participates on inter and intra-regional committees to address and risk management issues that can range from local to region-wide issues with significant and critical impact.
  • Works closely with counterparts in other Kaiser Permanente Regions to coordinate efforts, share best practices, and promote consistency of KPGA risk management practices with program-wide efforts.
  • Demonstrate strong business acumen and healthcare industry expertise; understands organizational environment and impact on project success. Consults with executive sponsors, business owners and other stake holders to develop and manage project structure, charter timeline, roles & responsibilities, metrics, scorecards, budgets, ROI analysis, business cases and working agreements throughout the life of the project/regional initiative.
  • Co-Chairs designated committees, providing a leadership role in the development, oversight and implementation of the committee charter, annual work plan, annual evaluation of the program, and quarterly reporting of the programs efficacy, barriers, and accomplishments.

  • Minimum ten (10) years of progressive experience in health care management, with eight (8) years of experience in managing or coordinating projects, budgets, and personnel.

Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to develop structures and processes necessary to comply with all legal and regulatory requirements relating and risk management.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills required to work with internal and external customers.
  • Knowledge of Kaiser Permanente processes, as well as federal laws, state laws, interpretation of regulatory standards for organizations such as CMS, NCQA, TJC, National Quality Forum, AHRQ, AHA, and other organizations.
  • Demonstrated ability in strategic planning, implementation, and management of projects involving personnel in a variety of settings.
  • Strong skills in personal computer applications including word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, database systems, and presentation software.
  • Strong knowledge of ongoing monitoring techniques including criteria development and statistical analysis.
  • Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
  • Significant experience working with physicians and other health care professionals.
  • Has built and mentored a high performing team and has shown the ability to foster internal growth of team members through professional education and developmental opportunities.
  • Ability to facilitate meetings and cross-functional discussions which result in the development of deliverables.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum ten (10) years of progressive leadership experience in a large complex hospital or health system.
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Georgia or able to obtain prior to date of hire preferred.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CPPS) preferred.
  • Certified Risk Manager (CPHRM) Certification or acquired within one year of employment preferred.
