GENERAL SUMMARY
Demonstrates phlebotomy skills with speed, safety and accuracy on all patient types. Prioritizes, accessions, labels, and distributes specimens for testing to appropriate departments. Handles incoming calls with courtesy and efficiency. Maintains appearance of work area with cleanliness and adequate supply stock.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
High school diploma or equivalent. Phlebotomy expertise. Ability to work with L.I.S. Must provide own source of transportation for off-site collections. Previous clerical experience with telephone, fax machine, copier, and office computer software preferred.
Medical terminology course preferred.
Required Length and Type of Experience
2-3 years experience in a hospital/clinical laboratory environment (preferred) with experience in performing phlebotomy and specimen processing. Experience in working with neonates, pediatric, adult and geriatric patients.
Required Licensure or Certification
Certified PBT (ASCP) or equivalent.
Required Physical and Environmental Demands
High energy level required to maintain good turn around time. Frequent prolonged driving, standing, walking, bending, lifting, manual dexterity and mobility. Must be able to lift 30 lbs. All employees are required to know and demonstrate competency in all OSHA requirements for the position such as use of personnel protective barrier equipment, safety equipment and procedures, handling of hazardous materials, etc. All employees are required to be aware of all MSDS considerations for this position which identifies all items in their particular area that fall into this category. Each employee will be educated regarding the location of their department s MSDS protocol. This position falls within one of the following Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure Categories.
Category I - Employees whose routine and/or daily duties, tasks, or procedures always expose them to blood and other potentially infectious materials. Employees will be educated regarding their positions Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure category to ensure employee competency in identifying and handling any exposures.
