JOB DESCRIPTION

Pre-School Assistant Teacher

Description:

Supports the lead teacher in providing a safe and healthy educational experience for preschool-age children (2 years-5 years) in which each child can grow emotionally, socially, intellectually, and physically according to the child’s needs, ability and development.

Qualifications:

High School diploma and certificate in child development from an accredited high school or high school diploma or equivalency certificate and two years of in-service training in a preschool or child care center run on child development principles.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides support to the lead teacher in assuring that learning activities nurture the preschool child's emotional, social, intellectual, and physical development.
  • Assists in creating functional and attractive learning environments, including displays, bulletin boards, learning centers, and instructional equipment.
  • Provides instruction, as directed by the lead teacher, individually and in groups using the Creative Curriculum.
  • Maintains professional competence through participation in educational staff development and in-service activities.
  • Classroom preparation and cleanup.
  • Other Duties as Assigned.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Attends staff meetings as required
  • Maintains an open line of communication with the lead teacher regarding the children and parents served.
  • Eats daily with the children

Physical Requirements:

  • Comfortable with prolonged sitting and standing
  • Able to lift and hold up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to squat to a child’s height and maintain eye contact at a child’s level
  • Able to sit on the floor for prolonged periods
  • Able to bend and reach from floor to waist several times throughout the day
  • Able to crawl around on the floor and interact with children in their space
  • Able to lift and walk as needed

  • Understand a preschooler’s social/emotional, cognitive, and physical developmental needs
  • Demonstrate patience and persistence
  • Demonstrate the ability to be creative.
  • Have the ability to maintain a positive partnership with the child’s parents
  • Possess the ability to interact effectively with children, parents, peers, and administrative staff
  • Possess the ability to work both independently and with peers

Responsible for:

  • Safety and well-being of children
  • Providing a healthy, safe, and loving environment
  • Providing consistent guidance for the children
  • Supporting the implementation of daily curriculum and activities for children
  • Nurturing the children's social/emotional, cognitive, and physical development.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Be a team player with co-workers
  • Be committed to professional self-growth
  • Participate in 16 hours of in-service/training per year.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $15.00 - $19.00 per hour
