Delta Diablo is Hiring a Maintenance Mechanic II Near Antioch, CA

Under supervision, responsible for performing mechanical equipment servicing, maintenance and major repair work in conformance with regular procedures, approved equipment maintenance and repair methods and prescribed techniques and verifying compliance with special job requirements and validating quality of completed work.
System Equipment Repair and Replacement: As assigned, monitors the continuing operations of critical engines, pumps and equipment central to recycled water delivery or wastewater treatment plant processes; assures all backup systems are maintained and equipment related to providing essential power sources remain in operating condition at all times. Provides on-the-job instruction to new employees on equipment maintenance and repair work. Disassembles, tunes, cleans, repairs and replaces damaged or worn parts, overhauls, reassembles, reinstalls and returns to full operating condition all equipment and materials integral to system operations. Assembles and installs new components, sets up and integrates into existing system operations. Assists electrical and instrumentation workers disassemble, install and reassemble system equipment during instrumentation repair projects. Prepares requests for follow-up maintenance services and enters into service request system. Adds repair and replacement information to equipment records.
Heavy Equipment, Vehicles and Tools: Operates and changes oil, filters, belts, bulbs, fuses and tires; washes and cleans, lubricates, replaces worn parts and repairs malfunctioning components on heavy equipment, trucks and vehicles. Overhauls, repairs and replaces engines, brakes, transmissions, suspension, cooling and fuel systems. Operates, services, maintains and repairs hand and power tools used in mechanical, facility, building and ground maintenance activities. Prepares requests for follow-up maintenance services and enters into service request system. Adds repair and replacement information to equipment and work completed records.
Equipment and Facilities Maintenance: Removes dirt and grease; changes oil, filters, bulbs, belts and batteries; lubricates and adjusts pumps, valves, engines, motors, boilers, heat exchangers, blades, lifters, chemical feed systems, pipes and underground installations. Inspects and identifies current condition of parts and operations. Cleans, washes, services, maintains, repairs, prepares surfaces and paints storage tanks, pipe lines, plant and pump station equipment, structures, machinery, and related buildings, lots, sheds and grounds. Services, repairs and replaces building heating, cooling and plumbing systems; doors, locks, ceilings, floors and walls. Assesses equipment and facility service needs and potential for malfunction. Prepares requests for needed maintenance services and enters into service request system. Adds service information to equipment and facility records.
OTHER ASSIGNED DUTIES
General Operations: May perform welding, cutting, burning, brazing, and fabrication as needed. Participates in the general housekeeping and administrative record keeping operations of the maintenance section. Assists co-workers as needed in assigned work and projects. Assumes responsibility for covering a part of the work assignments of other maintenance and inventory workers during short absences. Participates in teams engaged with process and customer service improvements, cross-training, and team evaluations. Prepares and presents formal reports and recommendations as appropriate. Participates in District committees. Performs other assigned work consistent with the responsibilities of the classification and necessary to effective maintenance section and District operations.
A combination of training and experience which demonstrates that a person has obtained the required knowledge and is able to perform the required work (with reasonable accommodation, if needed). A person with the following combined training and experience would typically qualify to compete in a selection process:
EDUCATION: High School Diploma or equivalent supplemented by vocational or technical school and training in mechanical equipment maintenance and repair.
EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years of experience servicing, overhauling, repairing and installing heavy equipment and machinery used in hydraulic and chemical processing plants of comparable size and complexity to that of the District.
 
Knowledge of the following is required to perform the essential function:
Current occupational practices and procedures for maintaining and repairing heavy equipment and machinery;
Laws and regulations related to safe work practices and equipment maintenance requirements.
Specific construction and operating principles of heavy machinery and equipment used in large hydraulic collection, transport and processing systems.
Specific function, construction and operating principles of hydraulic machinery, mechanical devices and their control mechanisms.
General purposes and content of preventive maintenance servicing of heavy machinery, control devices, engines and pumps.
Proper sequencing of tasks required to diagnose and perform corrective repairs and maintenance of equipment.
Ability to do the following is required to perform the essential function:
Apply specific servicing to specific components of heavy equipment and machinery, identify problems and take appropriate remedial action.
Interpret and apply specific safety and technical regulations, codes, service manual contents, schematic drawings, warranty provisions, contract specifications and written policies and procedures to specific tasks.
Exhibit a high customer service priority.
Provide clear verbal and written information on assigned work.
Establish and maintain open and honest communications with co-workers at all levels of the organization.
Effectively sequence work tasks and distribute among co-workers.
Exhibit work and safety methods and adherence to safety rules.
Read, write and clearly speak effectively.
Perform arithmetic and mathematical calculations common to assigned work.
Use and operate hand and power tools, heavy vehicles and other equipment associated with the maintenance and repair of heavy machinery, buildings and grounds.
