The Automation Technician will be responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting automation and control systems, including HMI (Human Machine Interface), MMI (Man-Machine Interface), PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition), and robotic systems. Candidates must have proven experience in HMI/MMI, PLC, and robot troubleshooting with major industry software packages such as Allen Bradley, Wonderware, Siemens, Automation Direct, Fanuc, ABB, Harmo, Wittmann, and Sepro. Additionally, the Automation Technician must be capable of designing and building robotic end-of-arm tooling (EOAT) for various products and integrating these tools with machines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Works efficiently and urgently to troubleshoot, install, and upgrade electrical, mechanical, and control systems on all automation equipment. Designs and manufactures enhancements to improve equipment efficiency.
  • Must be able to diagnose and troubleshoot various robots, PLCs, motion controls (servo and stepper), variable speed drives, and vision applications using communication protocols such as Ethernet IP, Ethernet TCP, ModBus TCP, ModBus RTU, Profibus, DeviceNet, and ControlNet.
  • Knowledgeable in basic electrical components including motors, breakers, switch gears, transformers, relays, transistors, and diodes. Familiar with industrial sensors like photo eyes, proximity switches, and reed switches.
  • Proven ability to interpret electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic schematics and document changes. Experience in building industrial machine electrical panels from engineering designs and integrating them with existing equipment is highly desirable.
  • Responsible for ordering, maintaining, and systematically upgrading all spare parts and inventory. Maintains documentation for all equipment issues for traceability.
  • Conducts evaluations to enhance machine efficiency rates and control parameters in collaboration with engineering. Ensures a safe and clean work environment in compliance with ANSI, IEEE, IEC, and NFPA70E standards.
  • Handles housekeeping controls and security, and works to improve work practices. Additional duties include interfacing with vendors, mentoring junior technicians, and providing guidance through the engineering process.
  • Required to provide detailed documentation upon project completion for traceability, serviceability, and warranty support, including as-built drawing modifications, logic and communication documentation, and BOMs.

Education and Experience

  • Over 5 years of experience in electrical and automation maintenance in a manufacturing setting.
  • Over 2 years of experience repairing 3-phase motors (both high and low voltage).
  • Over 2 years of experience repairing servo motors.
  • Over 2 years of experience repairing robots, including Ranger, Harmo, Wittmann, KM, Sepro, ABB, and Fanuc.
  • Over 2 years of experience with ladder logic.
  • Experience in PLC troubleshooting and repair.
