Position Description

The Youth Programs Coordinator (YPC) is responsible for coordinating and facilitating programming for the UUFA High School Youth Group. The YPC serves as the primary on-site adult for Wednesday night youth group programming. They will also assist in recruiting and training volunteers to work with the high school youth group.

This hourly position is five hours per week, from August through May, working primarily when the youth group is meeting (typically Wednesday evenings). Approximately two hours per week will be spent working directly with high school youth, with remaining hours used for planning, training, and special events. Hours may be saved to accommodate non-regular activities. Some overnights may be required.

The Youth Programs Coordinator reports to the Religious Educator, and is subject to the terms of employment outlined in the UUFA Employee Handbook.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPR/First aid certification
  • Experience and/or education in the area of youth development or ministry

Required Skills and Characteristics

Candidate must be at least 25 years of age and able to:

  • Maintain clear and appropriate boundaries with teens and their families;
  • Follow UUFA policies and procedures, including religious education safety guidelines and emergency procedures;
  • Maintain a professional demeanor and clearly communicate in a professional manner;
  • Proficiency with common office and communication software;
  • Manage and maintain accurate records (e.g. time sheets, attendance records, receipts);
  • Complete a background check and mandatory reporter training.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Be the primary facilitator and contact for the youth group program;
  • Plan and facilitate youth group meetings that incorporate the principles and values of Unitarian Universalism;
  • Act as a positive role model for the UUFA youth, modeling healthy boundaries;
  • Collaborate with the Religious Educator to select curriculum and programming materials, and regularly review program goals and assess programming/activities;
  • Work with the Religious Educator to recruit and train volunteers to co-lead high school youth programming;
  • Attend monthly religious education committee meetings as an ex-officio member;
  • With the youth, maintain the youth spaces in a manner that shows respect for the UUFA community;
  • Regularly engage in opportunities for continued education and professional development, such as advisor training, OWL training, renaissance modules, and others as deemed appropriate by the Religious Educator;
  • Assist Religious Educator and administrative staff to maintain youth registration and information updates;
  • Meet with the Religious Educator for annual performance review and program assessment.
