The Sumter County Public Works Department is seeking candidates for the position of Heavy Equipment Operator. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Responsibilities of this position include operating a variety of moderately heavy-duty construction equipment including front-end loader, motor grader, backhoe, dump truck, lowboy and other related equipment to ensure county roads, bridges, ditches, signs, drainage systems and rights-of-ways are properly maintained.

Minimum requirements include the ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations; Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid commercial driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Proof of these requirements must be shown at time of applying.

Due to health and safety concerns we require everyone entering the Courthouse to wear a mask, use the hand sanitation stations available throughout the building and practice social distancing.
