Leidos currently has an opening for an experienced Machinist who enjoys working in a vibrant and challenging research and development environment. Working alongside our scientists, engineers, and technicians, our successful candidate will play a key role in fabricating machined parts and contributing new ideas for improving machine shop processes and procedures that support development of the next generation of directed energy systems.

Primary Responsibilities

• Proficiency with Mastercam programming software and G&M code.
• Experience operating CNC mills, lathes and machining centers to fabricate precision machined parts. 5-axis experience a bonus
• Knowledge of machine shop theory and procedures as well as expertise in machining various materials, identifying required tooling and correct feeds & speeds
• Ability to design and fabricate fixtures necessary for part fabrication.
• Run multiple machines when necessary.
• Perform routine machine maintenance.
• Ability to interpret fabrication drawings to determine the sequence of machining setup & operation that will result in finished parts within drawing tolerances
• Understand basic geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
• Must have the ability to inspect all parts that they produce to meet print specifications
• Perform in-process inspections and measurements to ensure fabricated part are within drawing tolerances
• Collaborate with technicians and engineers in designing components.
• Keep work area clean and assist with general machine upkeep

Basic Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with at least 10 years of applicable experience
• US Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.
• 5 years' experience as a machinist

Preferred Qualifications

• Active DoD security clearance
• 5-axis mill experience
• Waterjet operation & maintenance experience

Our Directed Energy team in Albuquerque consists of approximately 100 scientists, engineers, technicians, drafters, fabricators and support staff with backgrounds in advanced physics, electrical and mechanical engineering, electromagnetics, lasers, and high-power microwaves. For over three decades our team has worked with government laboratories to push the limits of the state-of-the-art in several high-tech fields and continue to do so on several programs.
