Detective Investigator – Office of Special Investigation (OSI) - Albany
The Office of the Attorney General is seeking qualified candidates for a Detective Investigator position
in the Office of Special Investigation unit, located in Albany. Candidates should be hard working,
motivated and committed to public service on behalf of the people of the State of New York.
OSI Detectives participate in investigations of the circumstances, facts and conditions connected with
incidents covered by the OSI’s legislative mandate, using the highest level of independent judgment
and discretion to ensure the integrity, thoroughness, and fairness of the investigations.
Detective Investigators work collaboratively in case specific investigative teams with Assistant
Attorneys General, analysts and crime scene technicians while demonstrating the highest level of
professionalism.
The qualifications for this specific position include: Must have at least 5 years of experience at the
criminal investigator level, holding at least the supervisory level of sergeant or the equivalent;
experience in the investigation of complex crimes including homicides; expert interviewing and
interrogation skills; experience executing search and eavesdropping warrants; experience operating
electronic and photographic surveillance equipment and the use of a surveillance vehicle; experience
extraditing prisoners from across the US; experience conducting joint operations between local, state
and federal agencies; correction officer experience; experience testifying in court; and having
established law enforcement contacts on the local, state and federal levels.

Qualifications in addition to those listed above:
Must have at least ten years of law enforcement experience and current NYS basic police school
certification.
Must possess a valid NYS driver’s license and have the ability to drive a motor vehicle.
The Public Officer’s Law requires that police officers at the OAG be citizens of the United States and
reside in New York State.
Performance of the duties may require frequent, unscheduled work on evenings and weekends and
requires 24/7 availability. This position is in the exempt class, and incumbents serve at the pleasure of
the Attorney General. The Hire Rate for this position is $71,022.
