The Wellhouse is Hiring a Director of Finance Near Alabama, AL

POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for related general business and accounting affairs. Serves as primary liaison between the organization and the independent external public accounting firm in connection with the financial audit and all other audit activities. Plans and develops programs to fulfill budgeting, financial accountability, and other financial reporting requirements to include annual operating budget, capital budget, and long-range financial planning. Interpret and apply organization and Federal/State regulations, policies, and procedures. Oversee the administration of the VOCA grant.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assess and report the financial performance of The WellHouse regarding long-term operational goals, budgets, and forecasts.
  • Provide insight and recommendations to the short-term and long-term growth plan of The WellHouse.Identify, acquire, and implement systems and software to provide critical financial and operational information.
  • Along with the CEO, designated staff, and board members, create and establish annual financial objectives that align with the Boards plan for growth and expansion.
  • Represent The WellHouse to banks, lenders, institutions, public auditors, and officials.
  • Along with the HR Director, CEO, and Office Manager, ensure the administration of the VOCA grant.

Financial Analysis, Budgeting and Forecasting

  • Compile, review and analyze monthly financial results and provide recommendations.
  • Develop and maintain monthly and annual operating budgets.
  • Manage financial planning and analysis. Supervise the creation of reports, software implementation, and tools for budgeting and forecasting.

Accounting, Bookkeeping, Office Administration,

  • Oversee and monitor the accounting function to ensure proper execution of all systems, databases, processes and related software. Plan for regular maintenance and backup of all accounting and reporting systems or applications.
  • Review and ensure application of appropriate internal controls, safeguarding of assets, compliance.
  • Recommend appropriate accounting/bookkeeping staff or the use of consultants/CPAs.
  • Ensure timeliness and accuracy of financial and management reporting data for lenders, organization leadership, and the Board/Directors.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulatory laws and rules for tax reporting.
  • Remain current on audit or 501c3 best practices as well as state, federal and local laws regarding not-for-profit operations. 
  • Execute appropriate treasury and cash management practices for all WellHouse funds, including completion of bank reconciliations and the use of cash equivalents (MM/CDs).
  • Work alongside CEO to ensure appropriate risk management practices and insurance coverage for WH property and operations.
  • Recommend and assist with any outsourced functions.
  • Oversee and sign-off on payroll for personnel.
  • Ensure an organized and orderly filing system for accounting records and documents.
  • Implement cost control measures.
  • Ensure compliance with United Appeal Fund Member status and state and local sales tax impacts and reporting.
  • Oversee financial operations and consult on any business ventures pursued on site for WellHouse fundraising or client employment purposes.
  • Ensure compliance with tax laws for ShopWell and oversee the financial process.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  1. Strong judgment and critical thinking skills.
  2. Ability to maintain professional boundaries with rescues, residents, volunteers, stakeholders, donors, guests, and other WellHouse staff.
  3. Must possess effective reading comprehension skills.
  4. Must possess strong customer service skills (courteous, friendly, etc.). Requires the ability to identify and solve problems in a calm, logical manner. Problem solving will include cooperative efforts with the rescues, residents, volunteers, stakeholders, donors, guests, and other WellHouse staff.
  5. Demonstrated organizational skills, with the ability to manage crisis, deescalate individuals, foster teamwork; multi-task; adapt quickly to change; and the ability to integrate the organizations mission with required tasks, residents, and rescues.
  6. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to write and speak clearly and effectively, and to listen attentively.
  7. Highly motivated, organized, and displays mature judgement.
  8. Demonstrated ability to comply with policies and procedures; uses proven sound judgement and discretion with sensitive information. 
  9. Ability to work independently. 
  10. Ability to develop reports, create presentations, and communicate findings to both internal and external audiences required;
  11. Ability to use office equipment, such as printers, scanners, and fax machines, required. 
  12. Must be ethical (honest, responsible, accountable, demonstrates integrity).
  13. Ability to work respectfully, non-judgmentally, and professionally with diverse groups of people and various populations in a culturally competent manner. This includes internal and external interactions.
  14. Professionalism, punctuality, flexibility and reliability are expected. 
  15. Must be adaptable (open to feedback, change, new ideas) and be flexible in job tasks within a team format. 
  16. Ability to be flexible in working hours to address emergency situations, shift coverage, meetings, and various organizational priorities.
  17. Must maintain eligibility requirements for The WellHouse vehicle insurance coverage. Requires a current and valid unencumbered drivers license. 
  18. Must respect and advance The WellHouse mission.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  1. Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Business, or Financial Management or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience required. 
  2. Five years progressive management experience in finance and administration. Not-for-profit experience preferred. 
  3. Excellent communicative skills, and the ability to present at the Board of Director level. 
  4. Computer proficient with Microsoft Office, QuickBooks, Google platform and CRM Donor Tracking software.
