Aiken County Public School District is Hiring a Support Specialist (Teaching and Learning) (210 days) Near Aiken, SC

Position Title: Support Specialist

Department: Instructional Services Division

Reports To: Director of Curriculum Support

FLSA Status: Exempt

SUMMARY: 

Coordinates and provides instructional support for teachers, students, instructional support staff, and administrators in specified content areas to assist all students with mastery of grade level academic standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Facilitates district content-specific teams in the development and periodic revision of the district’s curriculum for all students
  • Assists in the development and implementation of content-specific quarterly benchmarks and other formative assessments
  • Facilitates the development of explicit cross-curricular resources into the district’s curriculum as appropriate
  • Facilitates adoption process for content specific instructional materials as required by South Carolina Department of Education
  • Collaborates with Chief Officer of Instruction, Director of Curriculum Support, Assistant Superintendents, Principals, and other Support Specialists to identify professional learning needs of teachers and administrators
  • Creates and facilitates professional development for administrators and teachers
  • Collaborates with educational vendors, publishers, and organizations to facilitate the evaluation, selection, implementation and professional development to support instructional materials
  • Collaborates with community and content specific organizations to coordinate enhanced learning opportunities for teachers and students
  • Actively participates in district-based committees to develop and implement solutions for identified needs
  • Provides support and technical assistance to school staff on district-wide instructional programs and/or resources aligned to specified content area teaching and learning
  • Actively engages teachers in coaching cycles to improve teaching and learning
  • Collaborates to plan and implement co-teaching and model lessons with classroom teachers as needed
  • Serves as consultant to teachers and school administrators to develop plans for instructional strategies and interventions to meet the needs of all students
  • Assists teachers and administration with the analysis of data with regard to instructional decisions
  • Meets with teachers and administrators as needed to discuss student performance and possible action plans to meet the needs of students
  • Collaborates with school administrators and classroom teachers to develop and implement daily instructional plans as needed
  • Participates in professional meetings and educational conferences
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Director of Curriculum Support

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Master’s Degree and a minimum of five years of successful teaching/administrative experience. 

Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction and/or Administration preferred

Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: 

Valid South Carolina Certificate in specified content and/or level

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Not applicable

LANGUAGE SKILLS: 

Ability to read, analyze and interpret professional journals, technical procedures and instructional manuals. Ability to design and write professional development plans, reports and data entry procedures. Ability to effectively present professional development and training and respond to questions from groups of educators, trainees, media, administrators and organization members.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in units of measurement, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and in the display and interpretation of data. Ability to apply basic concepts of statistical analysis, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to make decisions in non-routine situations requiring good judgement. Ability to interpret and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to analyze information and use logic to address work related issues and problems.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents and community stakeholders; ability to speak clear and concisely in written or oral communication.

Ability to implement a flexible work schedule to meet reporting deadlines. Ability to perform task within Microsoft applications such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Ability to perform duties with a high level of detail and accuracy. Ability to self-monitor and manage multiple tasks while working individually and with members of a group.

Teacher Pay Scale

The terms of employment detailed in this job description are based on full time employment during the school year. Conditions of employment adjusted for part time employees or individuals who are hired for less than an entire school year.
