Overview: Clinical Informatics Specialist

Analyzes, develops, implements and maintains clinical information and information systems in an effort to support the clinical practice for nursing, medical staff, ambulatory providers and other clinical departments. Also works directly with HIM and the electronic medical record. Prepares reports and recommendations for leadership, and assists in developing departmental practices and policies. Carries out assignments of a broad nature, while exercising considerable judgment. Responsible for working independently, with minimal supervision and has work reviewed for application of sound judgement. Maintains confidentiality and adheres to privacy policies. Oversee the nurse extern program and be the liaison for nursing administration to nursing schools. Will coordinate nursing school clinical schedules between nursing managers and schools. Provide informatics support to managers relating to productivity reports and other nursing related financial driven initiatives. Provide onsite support for documentation during downtime procedures. Support MHA nursing managers with technology related implantation working in collaboration with project managers and the IT team. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: 1 year clinical informatics experience.
  • Required Education: Bachelors Degree.
  • Other: Clinical background/certification (nursing, lab, radiology, therapy, etc.) Knowledge and experience with EHR in an acute care and clinic setting. Strong computer skills including basic troubleshooting, and critical thinking. Self-directed with excellent organizational, analytical, writing, and interpersonal skills. Must demonstrate a strong customer service focus. Strong clinical workflow knowledge and order entry skills within a CPOE (Computerized Physician Order Entry) environment. Must have knowledge and skills necessary to deliver quality educational instruction to all levels of staff in a clear and concise manner in both written and verbal contexts.
  • QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED Education: Masters in Informatics preferredLicensure: Registered Nurse PreferredExperience:Certification/Registration:Other skills & knowledge:(skills, knowledge, abilities)Clinical Informatics or Computer Science Degree or Degree in related field. Previous informatics experience in clinical information systems development and/or implementation.
