Job Description
The Clinical Quality Coordinator-Laboratory (CQC) is responsible for the analysis of laboratory specimens and subsequent result reporting according to laboratory protocol and procedures. This position oversees the overall quality of the Core lab assisting with performance improvement projects, accreditation requirements/inspections and assisting with training of staff. This position also performs requested clinical procedures on body fluids and clinical procedures related to patient care; performs quality control, maintenance, and troubleshooting on all laboratory instruments; performs clerical work in the absence of a technical assistant; assist the supervisor in any capacity requested. This position does an inventory assessment and order supplies as needed. This CQC assists with troubleshooting of all instruments in the laboratory department they are trained and performs maintenance as needed. The CQC assists in the ordering of supplies and scheduling of staff as needed. This position takes responsibility for their laboratory department in the absence of the laboratory manager and supervisor and assists with policy/procedure writing/review. This position serves as the team lead for senior technologists assuring that department is running well and handles advanced trouble shooting issues as well as resolves complaints/problems with superior customer service skills. This position assists with LIS duties and installation of new software as needed.
Responsibilities
  • Performs accurate and appropriate testing of specimens received in the laboratory, according to established laboratory protocol and procedures.
  • Reports test results in a timely manner and according to established laboratory protocol and procedures.
  • Follows established procedures for laboratory quality control and reports discrepancies to the appropriate
  • supervisor.
  • Performs daily, weekly, monthly, or as needed, maintenance on instruments and equipment as appropriate. Performs calibration of equipment as required.
  • Troubleshoots instruments, equipment, reagents, and patient specimen's when problems occur. Notifies the supervisor or senior tech if unable to solve the problem.
  • Complies with established laboratory and hospital policies for universal precautions and safety procedures. When handling blood and/or body fluids, universal precaution procedures will be followed in order to minimize exposure to infectious diseases. Safety policies and procedures will be followed when using chemicals.
  • Takes ownership for job responsibilities, department and hospital.
  • Responsible for Core lab morale achieving annual goal or better on employee attitude surveys.
  • Maintains current knowledge/certification/licensure. Pursues professional growth and development.
Qualifications
Minimum Education
  • Bachelor's Degree Clinical Laboratory Sciences Required
Licenses and Certifications
  • Clinical Lab Technologist Licensed State of Florida Upon Hire Required
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
  • Be able to use basic computer programs such as Word and Excel. Must have good interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with the Pathology information system.
  • Knowledge of sterile technique.
  • Strong interpersonal and team skills
  • Must have strong organizational skills
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Medical terminology.
