Description

The Prospect Research Manager will manage the Resource Development Team’s prospect research and assignment processes, as well as ensure prospects are moving meaningfully from identification through stewardship. They provide research support to key leadership at Habitat, as well as to frontline fundraisers, to inform development strategies and advance potential donor relationships.

Essential Functions

Prospect Identification and Research:

  • Proactively identify and vet prospects with the capacity and inclination to grow the prospect pipeline and ensure the best prospects are actively qualified, assigned and managed by development officers.
  • Perform prospect research, analyze, synthesize, and summarize information in the form of written prospect profiles and reports.
  • Prepare accurate research briefings for senior leadership and gift officers for the purposes of donor engagement, cultivation, and solicitation.
  • Record, organize and maintain prospect information in electronic files and other information systems.
  • Strategically mine internal databases, external publications, online resources, and leadership networks to identify individual, corporate, and foundation prospects for major gift solicitation assignments.
  • Support regular evaluation of research tools and products and make recommendations on new resources as appropriate.

Prospect Management:

  • Conduct data entry and maintain data integrity associated with relationship management, prospect tracking, and portfolio maintenance.
  • Complete various prospect management tasks, including prospect coding, tracking, status monitoring, reporting, and the review of dynamic information such as contact notes and account comments.
  • Facilitate monthly prospect review meetings with the development team to analyze key prospects.
  • Provide support for prospect management meetings and portfolio reviews with frontline fundraisers and Development leaders.

Advancement Services:

  • In partnership with Resource Development Team leaders, assists in developing, documenting, and implementing research and prospect management procedures
  • Cross-train with other staff and assist with records management and gift processing during busy periods; share responsibility for database integrity efforts
  • Stay abreast of the latest trends, tools, and resources for prospect research
  • Manage assigned projects efficiently and effectively.

Qualifications


Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Minimum Education, Experience and Skills

  • A Bachelor’s degree nonprofit management, business, or related field.
  • Minimum of 2-4 years in prospect research, prospect management, or a related field (market research, library science, etc.)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills (formal and informal)
  • Knowledge of ethics statements by the Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement and other related associations
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct comprehensive research and produce in-depth, accurate prospect profiles and analysis.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and work with sensitive information.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, handle multiple assignments, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment, while maintaining strict attention to detail
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Suite, including superior Excel skills.
  • Experience with online data systems.
  • Previous experience using donor bases is preferred.

Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from group of managers, customers, and the general public.

Math Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability: Define problems, collect, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Distinguishes between relevant and irrelevant information to make logical decisions. Provides solutions to individuals and company problems. Ability to organize and prioritize tasks.

Computer Skills: Proficiency with computer usage especially Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook. Experience with Raiser’s Edge or knowledge of NXT.

Certificates, Licenses and Registrations

  • Must be at least 18 and have a valid driver’s license with a good record.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is required to talk and must be able to read. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. Extensive keyboarding is required. Sit/stand at a computer laptop for extended periods of time. Able to lift at least 30 lbs.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate consisting of usual open-concept business office sounds including but not limited to people talking, computers, printers, telephones, and light foot traffic.
