Join the Team at HBCU Research Magazine: Seeking a Part-Time Managing Editor

HBCU Research Magazine, a leading voice in celebrating and disseminating research achievements within the Historically Black Colleges and Universities community, is looking for a passionate Part-Time Managing Editor to join our team. This role is pivotal in shaping the content that enlightens our readers about the impactful research and innovations stemming from HBCUs.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the editorial cycle, ensuring all content is in line with our mission and editorial standards.
  • Manage a team of writers and contributors, providing guidance and feedback to maintain high-quality content.
  • Collaborate with researchers and educators to develop compelling articles and features.
  • Edit and approve final versions of all articles, managing layout and content structure.
  • Coordinate with the marketing and design teams to optimize the presentation and distribution of the magazine.
  • Uphold the magazine's reputation by ensuring accuracy, integrity, and timeliness in all published content.

Qualifications and Skills:

Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field; a Master's degree is preferred.

  • Proven experience in editorial roles, preferably within academic or research-focused publications.
  • Strong leadership skills and experience managing a diverse team of writers and editors.
  • Excellent command of the English language, including grammar, writing, and editing skills.
  • Knowledge of the HBCU community and its research landscape is highly desirable.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Proficient in MS Office and familiar with content management systems and publishing software.
