Job Summary:

As the Assistant Director I at Little Sprouts, you will report to the Director of Operations. You will provide vital support to the Assistant Director III and Director of Operations in managing all aspects of the daycare center's operations as you begin to learn the ins and outs of this role. This role involves assisting with administrative tasks, staff coordination, curriculum development, and ensuring regulatory compliance. Your dedication to early childhood education and your ability to lead and inspire a team will be crucial in creating a nurturing and enriching environment for children.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Teach and monitor children when on as a teacher. 
  • Helping cover shifts when needed
• Oversee the general well being of the center in regards to staffing needs, supply needs and cleaning needs. 
  • Report all inventory needs to the Director of Operations..
• Train on scheduling matters
• Make sure that everyone is checked in and out at proper times, and adjust as needed
• Assist the Director of Operations with planning, managing, and directing a childcare program
  • Bring any issues with staff to the director’s attention
  • Communicate what supplies are needed for toddlers/infants (and general supplies)
  • Take over duties if director is sick or out of town
    • Scheduling/ first point of contact if someone is calling out
    • Filing and checking paperwork
• Supervise and evaluate teachers, provide mentoring and training to help teachers improve their skills
• Work with the Director of Operations and teachers to establish, evaluate, and revise activities and curriculum
• Take proper steps in compliance with State Licensing and parent requests when medical attention is required for ill and/ or injured children
• Handle parent interactions at drop off and pick up
• Oversee Brightwheel
  • Make sure messages have adequate responses
  • Check all activities properly logged 
  • Write incident reports
• Learn, maintain, and comply with State Licensing standards and regulations
• Complete the Childcare Program Administration course
• Delegate day to day tasks to head teachers
• Ensure that all messages are responded to promptly, with empathy and correct grammar 
• Oversee employee breaks
  • Creating the break schedule and ensuring all breaks begin before the 5th hour of shifts
  • Record breaks

Required Experience, Education, & Skills: 

• Bachelor's degree in early childhood education, child development, or a related field preferred.
• 6 months - 1 years of experience working in a child care setting
• Previous experience in a leadership or supervisory role in a childcare or educational setting.
• Strong organizational and multitasking skills, with meticulous attention to detail.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with staff, parents, and children.
• Proficiency in Google Drive and childcare management software.
• Knowledge of relevant regulations and licensing requirements (or willingness to learn).

Little Sprouts is an early care and education program that views each child as an individual with unique developmental needs. Through age appropriate programming, Little Sprouts serves children age 5 months to 3 years old. The goal of Little Sprouts Infant and Toddler Center is to achieve the highest level of professional development, build a community where families feel connected to one another and to the wider community, and to cultivate sustainable environmental choices and business practices to create a healthy environment for the children and teachers who care for them. 

About Little Sprouts:

Little Sprouts was founded in 2019 in San Luis Obispo, California, and opened another location in Avila, California in 2021. We will also be opening a preschool in Spring 2024. We believe that young children will develop a love for learning if taught through play in a nurturing, positive and secure environment. We dedicate our time to help children build their independence by providing a safe place they can explore, create, and learn.

Our Infant and Toddler Child Care program provides age appropriate activities that meet the developmental needs of each individual child in our care. Our learning environment promotes social & emotional development, as well as physical development.
