At Weckerly’s Ice Cream we’re all about creating products and experiences that make people feel good. We focus on fresh local ingredients because they are inseparable from strong local economies, good environmental stewardship, and our ability to provide the best tasting ice cream.

We make our own ice cream right here in Philadelphia using local milk and cream and the best ingredients we can find. In addition to our outstanding ice cream flavors, we are known for our unique and mouthwatering ice cream sandwiches. Over the years, we’ve created over 300 flavors!

Our scoop shop is the face of Weckerly’s Ice Cream. Located on Girard Avenue in the Fishtown neighborhood, the shop has been serving neighbors, tourists, and visitors from all over Philadelphia for over seven years. The shop features 12 scooped flavors and a variety of pints and ice cream sandwiches. New flavors are introduced regularly and we always have good ol’ vanilla and chocolate.

Job Description:

Weckerly’s is a premium ice cream brand. Each scoop and sandwich is carefully handcrafted and the customer experience in the shop is entirely focused on providing every visitor with a delightful experience that compliments the quality of the ice cream.

The Shop Manager is responsible for all in-store operations, staffing, and customer experience. They are people-focused with expert experience in retail or hospitality management. 

Responsibilities:

• Takes ownership of shop operations and communications.
• Promotes a friendly, energetic, and communicative work environment. 
• Trains, manages, and schedules staff.
• Makes decisions on staffing levels, hiring, and firing.
• Ensures daily and weekly checklists are completed.
• Responsible for maintenance, cleanliness, and organization of shop equipment facilities and health code compliance.
• Maintains inventory of ice cream, toppings, etc. 
• Places orders with kitchen and ensures deliveries are made in a timely manner.
• Maintains inventory of supplies and disposables.
• Functions as the senior person in change during hours of operation.
• Serves as the point of contact for customer-related issues.
• Updates and maintains POS and third party order platforms.
• Regularly communicates with production manager and owner to determine product mix and pricing.
• Creates and updates procedural documents and S.O.P.s.
• Conducts performance evaluations with shop staff.

Requirements:

• Strong verbal, written, and digital communication skills.
• Three years of management experience.
• Experience in upholding a high standard of appearance in a retail or food-service environment.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and spend 8 hours standing and scooping ice cream.
• Ability to work independently
• Must be able to work evenings and weekends
• ServSafe Food Manager certification must be obtained within two weeks of hire (employer will pay for the course and test).

Compensation:

This position is salaried. Compensation is dependent on experience. Benefits include health and dental insurance, and 2 weeks of paid time off after six months of employment.
