The City of Canby is hiring for a Seasonal Wastewater Operator. This posting may close at any time.This is a limited duration position, not to exceed six months or 600 hours. Position is full time, with some flexibility, non-exempt and non-represented. Paid sick leave is included in compliance with Oregon Sick Leave Law. Other benefits not included. Performs a variety of basic duties to operate and maintain the City’s wastewater treatment plant equipment and facilities under the direction of the Wastewater Treatment Plant Supervisor or Lead Operator. Supervisory ResponsibilitiesNo supervision/leadership exercised.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
The individual in this position is expected to engage in the following work-related activities with direct supervision. Perform routine wastewater treatment plant maintenance, housekeeping, painting and cleaning activities.Complete maintenance tasks such as lubricating equipment, replacing belts, and cleaning filters.Operate a lawn mower, edger and small hand tools.Assist with organizing records, archiving files and creating new files.Conduct routine meter readings, follow established schedules, and enter data into applicable computerized system.Collect wastewater samples using established procedures.Maintain proficiency by attending training and meetings, reading materials, and meeting with others in areas of responsibility. Maintain work areas in a clean and orderly manner.Comply with safety requirements of the position and actively promote safe work practices.Perform other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.Maintain cooperative working relationships with City staff, other organizations, and the public. Competency Profile The individual in this position is expected to possess or acquire: Ability to use hand tools and equipment utilized in building and grounds maintenance such as shovels, mowers, trimmers, edgers, hoses, and power tools. Ability to listen, receive and follow work direction.Good communication skills.Work both independently and with a team.Basic computer skills.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Mental effort Normal concentration and attention to detail with normal deadlines. Physical effort Medium: The work requires physical exertion, such as climbing ladders, lifting objects over 25 pounds, crouching, or crawling in restricted areas. Work environment Moderate Risks/Discomforts: 70 % of the work period requires special safety precautions, e.g., working around moving parts, carts, or machines; exposure to contagious diseases or irritant chemicals. Employees may be required to use protective clothing or gear, such as masks, gowns, coats, boots, goggles, gloves, or shields.Normal/office environment 30% of the work period.Travel requirementsNo travel requirements. Hours requiredMonday through Friday, 40 hours per week, flexible daytime hours.
