The staff PT has the responsibility for overall direction, utilization, supervision, instruction, and evaluation of professional and supportive staff, volunteers, and students in their area of the physical therapy facility.
Position Responsibilities/Standards:
General
- Attends department, clinic or company meetings as required.
- Demonstrates sound judgment by taking appropriate actions regarding questionable findings or concerns.
- Consistently works in a positive and cooperative manner with fellow staff members.
- Consistently demonstrates ability to respond to changing situations in a flexible manner in order to meet current needs, such as reprioritizing work as necessary.
- Attends required annual in-service programs.
- Demonstrates knowledge and understand of all company policies and procedures. Adheres to established facility safety requirements and procedures to ensure a safe working environment. Identifies potentially unsafe situations and notifies supervisor.
Specific Duties
- Responsible for evaluation of all patients referred for physical therapy, including completion and submission of all reports, including: evaluation reports/summaries, discharge reports/summaries, progress reports to referring physicians, current progress notes, and special reports
- Must practice physical therapy consistent with the American Physical Therapy Association Code of Ethics and standards of Practice and the company’s standards of practice.
- Must supervise scheduling patients for treatment and evaluation.
- Must supervise use of volunteers who may assist in their area.
- Must supervise Student Physical Therapists/ PT Assistants in their area
Treatment
Must maintain a patient treatment schedule consistent with the needs of the facility.
Records and Reports
Responsible for the preparation and submission of reports, assuring confidentiality of all records including:
Evaluation reports/summaries
Discharge reports/summaries
Progress reports to referring physicians and agencies
Current progress notes on all patients
Special reports requested by the administrator
Daily attendance records/ summaries.
Professional Status and Public Relations
Must attend conventions, meetings or special courses whenever possible and must share with personnel information gained thereby.
Performance Requirements
Must plan for future improvement in procedures and organization of the company/facility.
Must assist the supervisor and/or director in planning any new programs to be developed within the facility and/or company
Responsible for interpreting and carrying out the prescription of the physician.
Other Duties
- Must treat patients of all ages (0-120 years), race, creed, gender and disability without bias or prejudice.
Education/Experience Required:
- Must be a graduate of, or have a certificate from, an American Physical Therapy Association approved school of PT; or a school approved by the World Congress of PT.
- Must have current state licensure/registration, or be eligible for licensure.
- 2 years of department/facility experience preferred.
- Must have CPR certification
- Must have continuing or post-graduate education consistent with the scope and needs of the major patient population of the facility.
Physical Requirements:
Physical requirements for the position include the ability to frequently hear and communicate orally, see up close and at a distance, read and comprehend, stand, sit, walk, reach, handle, and/or feel objects. Must be able to climb, pull, push and kneel. Maximum unassisted lift = 50 lbs. Average lift 25-50 lbs.
