The Role

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Vice President of Engineering to:

• Transform and lead our engineering team, developing a cohesive and empowered group that delivers with high quality and performance.
• Drive the continuous optimization of our team structure, workflow tools, and processes.
• Align engineering initiatives closely with company strategies, particularly around customer satisfaction and technological advancement.
• Support and enhance developer and product infrastructure, maintaining ease of understanding and safety as it scales, and a world-class developer experience.

What You’ll Do

• Team Performance Optimization: Implement strategies to cut cycle times and reduce dependency, ensuring each team possesses the clarity and focus needed for rapid and efficient delivery.
• Leadership Development: Establish and execute a leadership development program within the engineering team, identifying and nurturing potential leaders to fill key positions.
• Process and Team Improvement: Maintain and enhance team structures and compositions to optimize collaboration and autonomy, driving significant reductions in cross-team dependencies.
• Technical and Strategic Oversight: Manage the strategic upgrade and oversight of technical infrastructure to support scalability and performance, focusing on modern software practices and robust architecture solutions.
• Stakeholder Integration: Enhance collaboration across teams and departments including customer success, sales, marketing, empower our teams with great empathy for our customers, and ensure cohesive project goals and unified priorities across the company.

What You'll Bring

• Proven leadership experience in managing and scaling engineering teams within a technology-driven environment. 
• Experience leading a team of 20 engineers, responsible for QA, DevOps, and infrastructure / reliability for a SaaS platform. 
• Strong technical foundation in software development, with a deep understanding of modern client-side and server-side technologies.
• Strong background in modern software development practices and architectures, with a particular emphasis on React, GraphQL, Rails, and AWS solutions. 
• Experience with job systems and tools like Sideqik and Redis highly preferred
• Experience with data and search systems like ElasticSearch highly preferred
• Demonstrated ability to prioritize customer needs and feedback in the engineering process, ensuring that every product development decision enhances customer satisfaction and delivers substantial value, driving user engagement and loyalty.
• Strategic thinking with a track record of aligning engineering deliverables with company-wide strategic goals (customer needs matter most).
• Systems thinker who can see how the various teams and individuals depend on each other and find ways to simplify processes and build in resilience.
• Experienced in annual and quarterly planning, budgeting, ROI modeling, board / investor presentations, etc. 
• Exceptional problem-solving skills and proficiency in managing risks and rapid changes within a tech landscape.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of fostering strong internal and external relationships.
• Experience in Agile and DevOps methodologies, ensuring the delivery of high-quality software solutions in small, iterative steps, with thorough automated tests, a shift-left mentality, and high degree of personal accountability.
