Delta Utilities is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Tax Manager to be responsible for shaping financial strategies, particularly in relation to rate making, and for applicable franchise tax compliance and reporting. This role requires a deep understanding of the regulatory environment and its impact on business as it involves complex tax management responsibilities that go beyond traditional accounting. This is a full-time position based in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Serving as a key member of the finance leadership team, the ideal candidate will have previous experience in managing complex tax issues within the utilities industry, including a strong background in federal, state, and local tax compliance, tax planning, and regulatory audits.

• Oversee federal, state, and local tax compliance, ensuring accurate and timely filing of all tax returns and related documentation
• Supervise the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual tax financial statements
• Provide leadership and guidance to the internal tax team and coordinate with external advisors to meet objectives
• Ensure compliance with specialized regulated entity accounting principles for taxes, remaining current with applicable tax rules and regulations
• Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of the regulatory environment impacting utilities
• Support audits conducted by tax authorities and utility company regulators and collaborate with regulatory bodies to ensure compliance and address inquiries
• Develop and present tax planning strategies to the CFO and Controller
• Contribute to strategic decision making by evaluating tax implications of business decisions and providing strategic recommendations
• Work with the financial planning team to develop forecasts of accumulated deferred and other taxes
• Establish and maintain appropriate oversight and internal controls over tax compliance and reporting
• Ensure robust internal controls to mitigate risks and enhance the reliability of tax reporting
• Conduct periodic reviews and audits to ensure compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements

• A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics, or a related field is required; a combination of experience and education that clearly demonstrates comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities may be suitable
• Current and valid Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license required
• At least seven years of experience in tax management, with a strong background in utility or regulated industries
• At least three years of management experience and the ability to work collaboratively within the finance leadership group
• Strong understanding of the regulatory landscape affecting utilities and its impact on tax planning and compliance
• Capability to develop and implement tax strategies that align with organizational goals
• Strong attention to detail in preparing and reviewing tax documents and reports
• In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local tax regulations
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
• Proficiency in tax accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite
